I wanted to ask you a question. On long rides.... do you feel guilty eating more of your weekly points? For example, today I did a 63 mile ride and packed a PB and J, Shot Blocks, and Cliff bars but that plus breakfast pretty much took all my dailys plus some of my weeklies. I know I racked up tons of activities pounds but still feels weird to use so many points. Also, what are you eating for longer rides? I want to tackle a century soon so I am doing a lot of metric centuries. So today, for example, the shot blocks and even the granola had a lot of points to it. Wanted to know what you eat on longer rides.

I haven't worried about points in shot blocks and cliff bars I eat on longer rides. I drop lbs on longer rides and using whatever nutrition I need to get me through the rides is not a problem. I have lost 17.8lbs in 11 weeks my losses are greater in the weeks I ride more and not so much when I ride less regardless of what I eat on the rides. I assumed that's why we had extra points per week and for activities

Had my weigh in this morning. Unusual since I do not go to the Sunday meetings but needed to since I will be traveling all week.

Down 2.6 pounds for a total of 45.6 pounds since I started WW. Feel great.

Exciting, isn't it! My next goal is to get below 260 and I should get there this next week. I think if I get below 225 I'm going to buy a new bike, if I stay on track I should get there by the end of August.

I hit my 10% goal at last weigh in and I followed it up by doing nothing for 5 days, I really wish I could erase last week from my life, it was a horrow show....but today I "start over" with WW and will continue to move forward.

UGH I can't take 12-14 hour week days anymore followed by packing the house LOL!

Weigh-in tonight... was down 2.4 once again for a total of 155.8!

Chef,
I don't usually take that much to eat with me. What I do take, I track. Up 'til now, I haven't gone much over 50 miles. For those rides, I've just taken a power bar or two, or maybe a couple larabars. I've also stopped for gatorade a couple times at a local convenience store when I got low on water. I usually eat right before I go on a ride... either my standard breakfast in the morning or a piece of fruit in the evening. After the ride, I'll either fix dinner and eat or have some more fruit if it's between meal times. Overall, I try not to let eating during the ride have too much of an ill-effect on my daily point intake. By the same token, I try to be VERY aware about what I'm eating after the ride. I don't let that hungry feeling after the exercise side track me into eating a side of beef!

Determination and Control!!!

I did have another great surprise this week... I bought 2 pairs of size 34 shorts!! They fit!!!
I can't even tell you when the last time I wore a 34 was! ...probably around 8th grade or so! (that would be 30 years ago, btw!)

Thank you for the tips. I know it is all trial and error for eating and riding. 100 miles is a long ride for me so we will see what happenes. I do not want to sarafice how my body feels during riding to be within points for the day if that makes since. I know it might not make since but until I dial in what to eat for the 100 mile ride, I will need to experiment.

Great on the new shorts. I love losing weight but man, it has been expensive. A lot of my clothes do not fit. I tried on dress pants before I traveled for work and a lot do not fit. I tried on a pair a few weeks ago that was small and they fit but put them on yesterday and they were too big. Bitter Sweet really

Imac: Do you notice with less weight that your knees and ankles do not hurt? Yesterday was a long day in the kitchen and my knees were KILLING me so bad I could not sleep.

Chef: They are getting better as I go along. They aren't nearly as painful as they used to be. I've also noticed that the circulation in my legs seems to be improving as well.

Rock: Like you, I earned my 10% award back on Friday, 4/6. I then went out of town for the week. It was great to be on vacation for the week but it was a tough week for WW. When I weighed myself last Friday, I was up 3.8 lbs for the week. I have renewed my acquaintance with the WW program and I am hoping to make a dent in last weeks weight gain. I will post an update on Friday morning.

I hate traveling be it for business or vacation. I mean I love vacation travel but work travel sucks. Eating gets screwed up too much.

You got this bro!

So in addition to tracking weight loss goals, I've begun tracking Blood Pressure and Resting Heart Rate. I used to track these religiously, but now that the weight is dropping off (thanks WW and my friends at the forum here) I think it's wise to log my BP/RHR figures. Today (04/18/12) BP is 126 over 77 and RHR is 48. I use an Omron home BP machine - I take BP five times and average the figures. The unit also displays heart rate, and I do the same average. Since it's mid-morning, my actual RHR (when I wake up in the morning) is probably actually lower, but a 48 mid-morning is excellent, thanks to Bicycling and Walking for exercise! I gotta work on the 126, but the figure is not too bad for a 59-year old fat guy lol

I had the strongest ride this morning I've had this year and I can't help but think my improved riding is connected to my weight loss. I hope to see both continue

Weighed in yesterday. Disappointed. Down 0.2 pounds. Expected more, but at least it's a loss. Have lost 5 pounds total since 4/1.

Have not been riding-have my kids this week and work's been getting in the way. I've been tracking and eating well. Except for a family gathering on Sunday. Need to maintain more control.

On the plus side - I'm out of work early today and I'm going to hit the bike. Not going to give up this early in the process!
