What I ate...

I haven't been cooking recently. I've been lazy and eating out a lot. Yesterday was no exception.

I started with oatmeal from the coffee shop. It was fairly healthy and only a small serving.

Lunch was a tuna sandwich on rye and fries. I should have skipped the fries.

I met a friend for dinner and had almost half of a 14" pizza. I also had stuffed mushrooms and three glasses of beer.

I went to my girlfriend's house and had ice cream and cake.

Gotta have days like that so you can bear eating healthy the rest of the time

I just had a small piece of Prime rib (pretty lean for prime rib) and medium potato for lunch. Breakfast was oatmeal - two packets of Quaker that has rasins, dates, and walnuts in it...really good but I think I am going to purchase the ingredients separate and make up my own mixture. Dinner is gonna be tuna on a Sandwich Thin (100 calories, far better than bread) and a can of soup (200 calories/can). I find the sandwich/soup combo FILLS me up. 1 can of tuna with about a 1T of mayo. Protein! Normally its more like 1/2can of tuna but tuna is not too high calorie.

I gotta start keeping more veggies around...but I find in the winter I really HATE veggies. Once spring gets here, I crave them and fruits though...? not sure how that works!

Cottage cheese for breakfast (1/2 cup).
Greek yogurt and Kashi for mid-morning(1/2 cup).
Detour 15g low sugar protein bar for lunch.
Chocolate protein shake for mid-afternoon.
Lean 5 oz. burger with steamed broccoli (no bun) for dinner.
Haven't determined my evening meal yet.

Yesterday:
Protein shake for breakfast
Cottage cheese for mid-morning (1/2 cup)
Chocolate protein shake for lunch
Detour low sugar 15g protein bar for mid afternoon
Grilled Salmon and sauteed green beans for dinner
Glass of Cabernet and pistachio nuts for evening

Using a system like this has allowed me to drop over 45 pounds this last 9 months. Going from 40 - 33 trousers and having energy is worth the effort. The wife and I went on a cruise in December. I gained 3 pounds but I'd gotten 4 pounds under my goal before we left. We ate plenty but chose wisely and splurged knowing what the results would be.

I gave up pizza, beer and fries... I wanna live vicariously through you... So I have just a few questions for you...

How'd it all taste???
What kind of beer?
How big of a beer for each one?
Were they cheese fries, chili fries, or my favorite chili cheese fries ( can't have plain fries)?
Why only half the pizza?
What kind of cake?
What type of frosting?
How big of a piece?
What flavor of ice cream? How much?

Can you tell I miss a few things I haven't had in a while...

Good stuff. We also "had" to use 1/2 rack of some loin-back ribs I cooked on Sunday. Those, dry rubbed only, were our appetizer!!

It tasted wonderful.
I drank Smithwicks. I normally don't care for it, but there was a limited selection where I was at.
1 pint glass x3
Plain fries - I like them that way
I shared the pizza with my friend
The cake was my least favorite. I think it was a store-bought thing, it was at my girlfriends's house. White cake with red frosting (Valentines Day leftovers) - it was a small piece of cake
I had about three scoops of quality vanilla ice cream. I also like chocolate, but vanilla was what was there.

I hope my description makes you feel better.

I'm being better today. My breakfast and lunch were similar to yesterday, only I skipped the fries. Dinner is supposed to be a grilled pork chop and steamed vegetables.

I've been on a roll lately with
* 1 pack of quaker instant oatmeal for breakfast
* 1 can of progresso soup for lunch, with 25 cheezits (1 serving! I count 'em out and put the box away)
* banana or orange in the afternoon
* some sort of chicken and rice concoction in the evening for dinner, veggies etc.

Beverages include water, 8 oz of skim milk every other day or so, maybe 2 beers a week (1 per night if I have one) and usually 2 glasses of wine Thursday, Friday and Saturday each. It usually works out to about 1600-1800 calories per day. Giving up pizza has been crazy hard but except for a sliver of a sample pizza in the breakroom the other day, I've somehow managed.

.

There is something so wrong about measuring out cheezit, while you have those 25 I will have the rest of the box ..

Breakfast Porridge with apple and mango ( last few mangos and they are almost out of season )
Lunch is normally a sandwich with ether Tuna or chicken with some form of salad like objects.

Dinner is normally small last night was Green curry stir fry using Fish .

Snacks are normally what ever fruit or nut I can get at short notice, failing that a home made Protein bar

I will help him count them out first.
1 for him, 1 for me.
2 for him, 1, 2 for me.
3 for him, 1, 2, 3, for me.
4 for him, 1, 2, 3, 4 for me...

I see 3 flaws with this:

1. You get no cheez-its

2. You get to buy all the cheez-its...

3. I get to put on all the weight from them....

ooooohhhhhhhhhhh cheezits are so good. Especially in soup with some hot sauce.

Old-TrojanHorse would eat cheezits till he was full. Usually over full. While he was waiting for his quesadilla to finish cooking.

New-TrojanHorse counts and puts them away before he has even 1 because he knows EXACTLY what would happen if there were no counting.

By the way, regular cheezits are 27 to a serving, it's the four cheese kind that are 25 to a serving. I"m torn between getting an extra two cheezits and getting four cheese. It's rough, I tell you.

What type of soup would you suggest? I am 100% serious, cause that does sound good...

I wonder how they would taste in some New England Clam Chowda...

Dunno... I've latched on to progresso. It's under $2 a can at Target, is about 200 calories(if you eat both servings, ie the full can) (+ the 150 for my delightful cheezits) and I like all the ones I've had so far. They do taste good and I appreciate the fact that I'm getting a solid limit on what I eat for lunch. It's even reasonably filling for me.
