2011 Redline Conquest Pro customization/build
So after my Vassago was totalled I decided to replace it with a 2011 Conquest Pro. It's the last Alu/carbon version before this year's decision to go full carbon with this model. The only drawback is that it was not available in a solid colour or combo that matches my team kit; so I've been masking and painting for the past few days, as time allows.
All the red accent is getting done over in Soft Like Kitten team issue pink. Automotive frisket is either A) expensive for small amounts, or B) reasonable by the yard, if you need 40sq.yds. of it (which I do not); so I went another route. Avery brand full-sheet clear laser printer labels are high-tack, low stretch, translucent, and peel resistant when used with a Uni brand paint marker. So, a few labels, a fresh X-Acto blade, and some hours later and here's what I've got happening: Soft Like Kitten team edition Conquest Pro. (still in progress) Seat tube detail (needs adhesive goo cleanup when paint is fully cured) https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...28504674_n.jpg Chainstays and seatstay (compare to the red stock accent on the seatstay) https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...95915368_n.jpg Downtube right side logo detail https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...54452337_n.jpg Downtube left side logo detail https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...49514977_n.jpg |
I'm really unsure of how to respond to a fellow clyde that believes it is socially responsible or acceptable to not only paint the highlights of their ride in pink, but, dress their clyde glutes in the same fashion(?)............

(even if I don't, when you're 6'6" and 210-ish, nobody's going to tell you you can't) Storming the beach at StarCrossed, 2011. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...51007156_n.jpg |
Great looking bike Clifton!
PSI think you pull off the pink just fine. ;) |
Finished it all up yesterday and got a couple of good pix:

It's 21 pounds, right on the money. I often forget that I am a Sasquatch, not a dainty 140 pounder a foot shorter than my actual height. Manufacturers claim their weights against 54 and 55cm frames decked out in lightweight components. Not 60s decked out for the samsquantch. |
Discovering more tricks of the trade: Aside from manufacturer's claimed weights being those of midget frames, there's no pedals on there, either!
Remove my pedals, and the weight comes down to 20.23 pounds. Now here's the part where I get REALLY weight-weenie about it: I haven't chopped the steerer yet (nearly an inch, plus spacers), I forgot that I have a fixed cog and lockring on the opposite side of my hub, and I left the taillight bracket, headlight bracket, rack mount bolts, and bottle mount bolts on when I weighed it. ALL THAT CRAP might equal another quarter pound and get me down into the sub-20 range. I really just want to say I went sub-20 pounds with this build without spending money on anything else. |
I'd leave the steering stem uncut (unless there are religious reasons ;)) It does seem odd that you're so close to 20 rather than 17 with that build but ultimately it doesn't really matter. What matters is that it wins races!
