I searched the forum and didn't find too much so thought I would try this post. I got into Mountain Biking late last year and have really enjoyed it but am still learning and having all the pitfalls of learning to ride the trails. I mostly do XC and Single Track riding and am getting into the more technical areas on our local trails. I crash at least every other ride session and have come to the conclusion that I need some sort of padding on the knees since I seem to always land on them when I crash. The trick I am having is finding larger sizes of pads for knees that won't take me 20 min. to put on and feel too tight. The better pads I have found so far is the FOX Launch Pro Knee guard size L/XL but they are a PITA to put on/off and feel like they are cutting off circulation. After a few minutes they are OK but still tight feeling. I currently weigh 254 lb. At 20" above the knee and 18" below the knee I know I am pushing the limits on the FOX pads. Am looking for suggestions on what has worked/fitted for you guys best. TIA

I have no answer for you, I always land on my head. I don't think I could ride with knees pads, I might get use to them but then again I've never bashed my kness, shins have numerous scars. I show them with pride..lol

My progression usually goes hand, wrist, head, back, slide to stop, have bike land on face. No need for knee pads with that. I too have plenty of shin scars from loosing pedals in rough terrain and getting whacked by them. But, not so much the knees. Sorry. I can imagine the issues with finding some that will fit, stay in place and function for you. Telemark skiing I used to use a pair of skateboarding kneed pads that had adjustable straps that I had modified. They worked well over light weight underwear and under or over ski pants. But, can't imagine spinning with them against bare skin. If you were wearing them over downhilling pants I could imagine skating pads working fine.

I have a pair of SixSixOne D3O Knee Pads. I will get a measuring tape and get some measurements on the calf and thigh, as soon as i dig out the MTB stuff.
