new HR record for me. It DOES get better
When I got back on my bike after too many years I weighed 280 and had a hard time getting up and down our home's staircase. On the bike I went anaerobic at about 127bpm. I'm 60yrs old. I'm now down 50lb (gained 10 over winter but we won't talk about that). Tonight at spinning class (after a 30 mi ride) I held a heart rate of 158 for about 45min. Up till tonight I considered 153 to be my anaerobic threshold. My AT has gone up (as has my max heart rate) slowly but surely over the last year and a half. Being able to hold 158-160 was quite a big deal for me; those of you that are getting back to,or starting riding to help lose weight and get in better shape...keep at it. It doesn't happen over night and I still have 30lb or so to lose before I'm almost satisfied, but that will come this summer, I hope.

Ice...yeah......I think it was about -20F or so the day that shot was taken. That's about the limit for me being willing to go out riding. Typically I draw the line at about +20F these days. Sometimes when I come inside my beard is entirely enmeshed, with my balaclava, in ice and I have to dunk my head in warm water to get the balaclava separated from my beard and the ice. I keep wondering what kind of idiot rides a bike when it's that cold, then I slap my head and do a Homer "Doh!".
If I'm twice your age then whatever shape you're in now, you have a great head start on getting back into shape. I went out of shape at about age 40 and didn't return to biking till I was 58 and some months, so congrats on the head start, just keep it up.

Yea i have noticed there seems to be two age groups on here, The older generation and the younger. Maybe the Middle agers are just quiet i don't know.
