If you guys are really all clydes, hats off and a bow. You sound like my friend who rides like Marco Pantani - small, skinny guy who rides a bike like 48cm frame or something.
Am I going to get a polka-dot jersey? Not awarded to me but it would be cool to own one.

Here goes: I will set a PR for number of "blisters" in a month.
And not literally, thank goodness. There is one hill around hill which only goes up 120 feet or so, but at upwards of a 20% grade - aka the "blister": It's small, but it hurts! So I will knock it down a PR number of times. At least 30. And if I actually figure out how high it is, maybe I can by repetitions also target a monthly vertical count. Will update you. |

Suncrest is next on my list, and shouldn't be too difficult. I dread Sierra Rd., though. Oooh, and I just found this: http://app.strava.com/segments/628994 I'll have to give that one a shot when I do Suncrest Ave. I bet it's gonna hurt. |
Month is starting off good. Two days of commuting puts me at 3,794' of climbing in 66 miles. Am going to wander up into the hills for a leisurely ride tomorrow morning.
|
I'm in. Have been working on hill climbing for the last six months.
Total for first couple of days in July is 3,794' of climbing in 66 miles. |
Did a short 2.6 mile MTB ride tonight with 1252 feet elevation. Amazing how a few km of MTB seems so much harder than 40+ km of road biking.
MTD elevation is 2782 feet. Everything around here has hills in some capacity so should reach 6,000 before long. Unfortunately I hate hills with a passion, need to work on that;) |
1332 feet, the result of a failed hilly ride and yesterdays nearly flat half century biking to see fireworks and back.
Temperature will be brutal tomorrow, 95. But I've got my weekly hill ride slotted so we'll see how it goes. Could be 20 miles@1000 feet or 30 miles@1500 feet, depending on how I feel. I've taken nearly 20 minutes off my time on the 20 miler since May, so I'm keen to try the 30 again; it's got that hill I couldn't do before. I'm convinced my better times on the 20 mean I can do it now. Saturday will probably be another day off because I am planning on trying out a bicycle club ride on Sunday and want to show up with fresh legs, as they say their average speed is 15-25, and I've never averaged 15 on a loop (16 on a 1-way -300ft 20 miler with a tailwind once, though). Sunday will then be 35 or 45 virtually flat miles with the club. |
July 05 - 952' / 13 miles
July Goal: 6,000' / 200 miles MTD: 3,734' / 54 miles Chris, I'm with you. I've never tracked my total elevation before and now I'm realizing I should have bumped up my goal too. Everything here is hilly. |
Made 6,000 feet this morning.
2012/07/04 - 46.8 miles and 5,329 feet climbed (http://app.strava.com/rides/12528676) 2012/07/06 - 15.1 miles and 806 feet climbed (http://app.strava.com/rides/12660746) total for July (so far) - 61.9 miles and 6,135 feet climbed |
I'll go ahead and join in again. I did 12k last month with a week off due to a twisted back. I'm hoping for 15k this month if work and life will let me. Only going to log in at the end of the week though.
MTD 41.5 miles/ 4342 feet gain. |
2,457 feet. Temperature has dropped this week, I should be able to resume riding a bunch now, to make up for some of the lost days during this weeks heat wave.
|
I'll try for 25,000'.
07.01 1,627' 07.02 604' 07.03 529' 07.04 1,691' 07.05 565' 07.06 564' 07.07 1,424' mtd 7,004' ytd 122,015' |
4 rides this week, with a bit more emphasis on getting some hills into the mix.
I'm using Garmin (Edge 500) elevation data here and going forward. MTD = 4,485' (44.8% of 10,000' goal) If next week is also strong, I will feel compelled to raise the goal. |
Got out mid-day Sunday for a solo ride in the foothills of No CA. Total for the month so far is 10,355' in 138 miles.
I'm a little behind the pace for monthly goal of 50,000', but a several days of commuting next week @ 1,800' per day, and a long ride planned for next weekend will put me right back on track. |
When I get up from the table that's the only elevation I get.
|
4460' so far for me.
|
Made it with a bang today. I just joined the Portland Wheelman's Touring Club and made it with my first ride - riding in groups on the longer rides is soooooo much nicer. Learned a lot too. 7193' so far for me - todays ride - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/198234422

I did about 9,000 feet (again, haven't done the math) over the five days I had off for the 4th of July. Only about 6,500 of them were on a bike, though.
I went out to Winthrop to see what the buzz I've been hearing is all about, when it comes to road bikes and the Methow Valley. Did 4,300 feet elevation gain in about 20 miles. Extremely technical descent, with brakes starting to overheat. I started getting heat stroke - Seattle is part of the wetlands, but Winthrop is the desert. I also made a solo ascent on Cascade Pass. In the summer it's a simple hike, but winter is only losing its grip up there, and it was no joke. There was rock fall, an avalanche every 45 minutes or so, and somebody lost the trail, then lost his footing on the snow and fell, glissading 300 to 500 vertical feet until he hit a tree. I helped the guy back to the trailhead. |
Biweekly hill ride tonight. 1700 feet over 32 miles, the highest climbing/mile I've done yet.
http://app.strava.com/rides/13150804 http://connect.garmin.com/activity/198301350 4,381 climbing for the month already. A new record for this time of month, and yet I'm still behind where I want to be to hit my goal. D'oh. |
I'm at 10,000 ft after 7 rides this month so I should be able to do at least 20,000
|

Club ride tonight, rode twice the amount since I rode 10 there, then rode 21 with the club, then 10 back. 41 miles with 853 feet of climbing. Not too hilly but still a decent amount of climbing compared to some rides.
http://app.strava.com/rides/13231851 http://connect.garmin.com/activity/198599879 5,234 feet total in 188 miles. The miles are greatly decreased from normal because I'm focusing on hillier and faster rides now rather than distance at this point. Hopefully by working harder I'll eventually be able to do many more miles much easier. Basically, working on quality rather than quantity at this point. |
I'll try for 25,000'.

7,009 feet after todays "club" ride of 1,776 feet. That was killer.
53% of my goal down now, I should be able to hit it no problem. |
