Crushed New Hope to Brooklyn
Rolled out of the parking lot at 7:20. Finished at 4:15 despite having to wait for a woman who dropped her tube, lever, etc., bag in the middle of an intersection and wasting 15 min. scouting a possible alternate route for next year. About 95 miles of riding (included a mandatory walk across the bridge from PA to NJ) plus a ferry ride. Saw lots of critters, including hundreds waiting in line at the Hoboken bakery from The Cake Boss. Could see the new tower going up at the former site of the WTC. Computer read about 13.5 average, but with all the slow, urban sections and the slow ride over the Brooklyn Bridge, all of which were during the last 30 miles, that number is artificially low.
Started out with a mostly good group of 11 total. One guy flatted at about mille 35. He told us he would meet us at the stop at mile 40. He flatted again at around mile 45 and we didn't even slow down for him. Heard he flatted a third time but eventually finished. He was apparently riding on worn tires, which is something participants were told not to do.
Ice cold beers waiting at the finish in Cobble Hill Brooklyn and them some nice Italian on Smith St.
If you are in the neighborhood and enjoy an adventure ride that requires a certain degree of perseverance and self-reliance, check it out. Details will be on the Philly Bike Club web site next July.
Off to Cycle Oregon on Friday!
