19th Anniversary of my Fave Ride Ever
Especially for those of us that are older, do you have one ride in particular that stands out as a favorite? For me it was 19 years ago today, I rode from Lakewood, Colorado to Idaho Springs. I started at (approximately) the intersection of US6 and Wadsworth, and rode west to the beginning of Mt. Vernon Canyon, rode up the old US40 route, then onto I70 at the top where the buffalo are. Then I got off the freeway and back on to old US40 then up Floyd Hill, then the steep drop into Clear Creek Canyon and up the service roads to Idaho Springs, up to where the big fake waterfall is. The ride was only about 35 miles, but climbed up two steepies. It is rich with memories. For some reason the feelings, sounds, and sensations of that trip still fill me with great memories. It was on a 1985 Trek 520 Triple. How did 19 years pass so quickly??!?

19 years ago I was probably hauling my younger brother around at high rates of speed in a steel wagon lashed to my single speed "The Clean Machine" bike and trying to fling him out in turns.

mine was 16 years ago when I rode a lot. My best friend and I did the Seattle to Portland Bike Ride (STP) starting in Seattle, WA and riding to Portland Oregon over two days. Amazing ride. 150 miles the first day and 50 the next day.

I am going to say my first metric may be is my favorite. It was the first organized that I had done, and first time really doing any distance. It was in 2008 and I even did a ride report here on the forum. I look back at the report now in amazement at how much things have changed for me. A metric is just a fun ride now, plus a looking at the picture of me 30 pounds heaver then I am now seems strange. Anyway here is a link to my post after doing it. https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...06#post7257606

Mine was 43 years ago. A friend and I rode our bikes through Jay Cooke State Park in Minnesota. Hilly and twisty ride along a river gorge. I had a speedometer on my Schwinn and I remember it going up to 43mph down one of the twisty hills. Laura and Martha's wild ride! We did that ride several times that summer. Now the drive through the park has too much traffic for the kind of riding we did. Well, actually the park has no traffic because the Big Flood washed out many parts of the road this year.
I have been restoring my old Schwinn Collegiate this summer and have ridden it some. I can't believe I ever let that bike go that fast.
The summer of 1969 was probably the only time I ever came close to being fit until now.

About this this time 19 years ago I rode my second consecutive MS 150 City-to-Shore. On Saturday, I will ride my 21st consecutive MS 150 City-to-Shore. I have ridden four different bikes on the event. Always something different. Almost always a good time. The most memorable edition was '99. The event marked the end of a self-contained trip from Seattle via Bar Harbor, ME. Even though I had arrived home in Philly a few days before, I still did the first day of the event with all my gear. Several people commented that I was carrying a lot of stuff for just one night.

Probably another 10 to 12 thousand through the years. In about 1995 it became a "backup" and then this past summer I traded it straight across for a Giant fitness bike at a local LBS.
