Saddle advice...

I've gotten my bike rebuilt and had a shop check my work, and after picking it up from them tonight, I took a short ride around our neighborhood. My injured back felt pretty good on the bike, thankfully...however, I discovered just why there's big, wide, and soft granny seats for bikes. I rode less than a half-mile, but my big, wide, and soft arse thinks it was a lot more.

Is there a saddle that can support my wide load but not embarass me too much at the bike rack? What are other 300+ lb. riders using?

Do a search on saddle recommendations and you will find quite an array of opinions, as many different opinions as there are shapes to the human posterior. You won't find many opinions that will want to match your cushy behind with a cushy saddle, but read the opinions, buy what you think you need and give it a shot.

It isn't so much your weight which governs what saddle is comfortable, but what kind of riding position you are in, the distance between your "sit" bones that the saddle supports, and whether there is a need for a cutout or other design modification to relieve pressure in areas where you don't want pressure. Unfortunately, if you haven't been riding it takes a bit to toughen up your behind. So, before deciding on a different saddle you might want to ride a couple of weeks and see if you adapt.

Cool...thank you. I'll try that.
