Any Clydes/Athenas ride the Silver Comet trail?

I would love to come ride it but really don't want to do it alone.

I am in the upstate of Sc so not too far away, weekend would be best or even a Monday would work for me with notice..

Not looking to cover the whole route just a good ride ,i do 18 miles or so on our Swamp Rabbit MUP and just want something with more potential mileage..and different scenery...

I know i could post this in the SE section, but i want to stay in this group..

I used to ride it a lot. You'll love it - it's great - wide, pretty flat, just some gradual grades, and most of the pedestrians/runners/dog walkers use pretty good lane discipline (and stay to the right). I miss that trail.

I used to live five minutes from the main trailhead in Smyrna (Mavel Road), but moved to Nashville... So, like you, I'm looking for opportunities. My business has an office nearby, and I do a few days a month in that office, so I've been bringing my trails bike and hitting the trail early in the morning, before work.

You should consider just going out there alone. If you start at Mavel Road (the Eastern end of it), you can take a great ride to the West and you won't be alone much. You'll see lots of other bikers (...don't expect "the Lances" to wave or say hi, though) and friendly walkers and runners out there. And even some of the the snobby roadies will stop and help if you break down.

I plan to do the whole thing (w/ Chief Ladiga) around Christmas as my first mini tour. I have family in the upstate so I know the Swamp Rabbit well also. I am looking forward to some Williams Hardware when we get together for Thanksgiving.

I'm in depending on the day. I would like to go and do a 60 - 80 mile ride there. It is very easy and quick too. You can average 18-20mph most of the time.

A friend and I rode the Silver Comet last summer from Piedmont Al(the Chief Ladiga trail end) to Smyrna trailhead and back in about 3 days. We spent the night in Dallas, day 2 went to Smyrna and back, then returned to Piedmont on day 3. There's a pretty hilly section between Rockmar and Cedartown, so if you're used to flats, you might want to avoid that section. I'd love to ride it again if I have any vacation left by the time you go!
It's a great trail and fun to ride....EXCEPT the section close to Smyrna on a Saturday afternoon! Man, it's like riding an interstate highway full of bikes - roadies at 30 mph buzzing past families trying to have an easy outing with the young ones weaving everywhere. It was a wonder we didn't see a couple of nasty wrecks while we were there. The rest of the trail is fantastic, just avoid the Smyrna area on Saturday afternoon!

Is that the one in Georgia? I'd probably be game to check it out some time.
