150 Mile Plus Club: November Edition... Take the BURR out of riding! Layer up & Ride!

Tomorrow we turn our calendars to November! Wow.

Two more months to ride and we will be in 2013. Weird even thinking about it!

Back on topic!

Goal for this month is to challenge yourself and go for it. Then of a number and then add 20 miles to that number and that will be your new goal!

I know you all can do it!

Who's in?

Iron chef: 400 miles.

I'm in. Went for 410 last month, and missed it by about 30 miles. So, what shall I do this month? Make my target 500 miles of course! So better make that 520 then!

Taking a tip from Volo (below), I'll just update here as the month goes on, so:

updated Fri. Nov. 16, 2012 - warmer but started raining half way through. Still, warm + wet is much better than cold + anything.

nov-2012 - mtd: 163.9 mi. - 5920 feet climbed - 9 rides (definitely behind on goal #1)

Goals: 1 - ride 5 times every week
2 - Strava 79'r challange (this'll be tough for me)
3 - 420 miles

Stretch goals: 500 miles and on pace for 2500 for the year.

Last edited by Esteban58; 11-16-12 at 11:50 AM. Reason: updated mileage, complained about weather.

I aimed for 220 this month and missed it by 9km....So this month I'm going to aim for 240 and hope for more. I have to admit that I don't relish cycling in the pouring rain and that is the season we are in from now until at least January. They don't call it the "Wet Coast" for nothing.

Missed October's 10% boosted goal of 262 by 59 miles mostly due to illness. This month though I'm out of town three days, where I won't be riding, but I'll be walking miles around Disneyland! And of course there's the holiday, where I think I can catch up a bit too, so I'm aiming for 300 miles! The goal is to ride every single day, except when out of town, so if I do an easy 10 every day and a few extra days to make up for the missed ones, I should totally make at least 300.

300 for the win!! Only 11.1 miles average per day, easy-peasy. I may even call for a rest day after a weekend trek in the +50 range.

11/03/2012 - 27.2 miles with 1421 feet of climbing. A VERY cold and wet 27 miles this am. When I started it was 34 degrees and cloudy. It started spitting rain at about the 12 mile mark and was drizzling heavily by the 15 mile mark. I feel great now, but the last 4 miles really sucked!!

11/04/2012 - 40.9 miles with 2032 feet of climbing. A beautiful sunny day for a ride and quite the opposite of yesterday. It was still pretty cool though with a starting temp of 35 degrees.

11/05/2012 - 26.7 miles with 858 feet of climbing. Slow ride with my nephew, but every once in a while you have to stop pedaling, get off the bike and enjoy the view! Pics are in the Post-Your-Daily-Ride-Pics thread!!

11/10/2012 - 30.9 miles with 539 feet of climbing. I had to take advantage of the beautiful weather we are having. 72 degrees here today which is uncommon for Nov 10th in the Midwest! The wife did 22 miles with me on her hybrid.

11/11/2012 - 55.2 miles with 1600 feet of climbing. A longish slower ride could've been quicker, but haven't been riding like I should. First half of the ride was into a 12mph headwind. I also hit the pavement for the first time since starting my riding in May of 2012. I have a knee and elbow with some road rash and my right brake lever has a very minor scratch, but other than that all is well. The dog that I hit ran off, so I guess he is OK as well, but I bet he has some sore ribs for a few days. Also, my IPhone battery died on this ride so I had to use my nephews Garmin data. I trust the mileage he came up with, but the climbing I think was a little off at 2569 feet. I will add another 7 miles and 400 feet onto my ride STRAVA data.

11/16/2012 - 12.2 miles with 568 feet of climbing. Not much to say about this ride except that I've been off the bike for 5 days except for a couple hours on the trainer, which I don't really count as riding. It was all I could do to get those 12 miles. I just was not feeling it today.

11/18/2012 - 10.1 miles with 411 feet of climbing. My wife's first road ride. She was so worried about the cars. I'm proud of her!! This is the first step to her becoming a bonafied "roadie".

11/18/2012 - 25.7 miles with 1292 feet of climbing. Beautiful weather this afternoon and couldn't stand to sit on the couch and watch anymore football. 57 and sunny only happens once in a while this part of the year.

11/22/2012 - 22.1 miles with 385 feet of climbing. This was supposed to be a slow ride to get some blood flowing and get rid of some lactic acid from a 10K I ran in the morning, but I hit it faster and harder than I wanted to. For some reason I CANNOT just ease into and ride a smooth easy ride. It seems like I have to suffer to get any enjoyment out of it.

11/24/2012 - 19.6 miles with 952 feet of climbing. Wow, it turned chilly overnight! I'm not sure what the temp was when I started, but at the end of my ride it was 32 with a windchill to 24 degrees. 19.6 miles and my toes were numb. Shoe covers are on the X-mas list.

11/25/2012 - 25.5 miles with 1335 feet of climbing. A little warmer ride than yesterday at 45 degrees, but the wind was up and sustaining at 16mph. Because of the wind I rode a good portion of the ride in the drops. I also dropped my chain in the steepest portion of a small steep section of the ride. NOT FUN!!!

MTD: 296.1 with 11393 feet of climbing in 11 rides

Goal for the month was 200 miles. New goal is 300 miles

All of my 4am rides will be on a trainer this month so I don't think I will exceed more than about 1000km "real" riding. Its just getting too cold to get out before sunrise.

I'm in. Had a good October, which saw me meet and surpass a goal for the first time since May.

Seeing I don't normally do much riding after October, I'm hesitant to set a goal, but I will. I'm going to pick 230 miles (my October total) and add 20 miles to that for a November goal of 250 miles.

I barely made 100 last month. But I am heading further south to our Iowa place for most of the rest of the month. So, I'll say 200 and hope for decent weather.

November holds 2 international business trips for me, so I will be away and off the bike for at least 12 days.
I think I can still get in 12 rides, so I will shoot for 300 miles this month, with 10,000' of elevation gain.

I'll take your challenge! I'm a Cognocentus! 300+20=320 miles as my goal. When I exceed or meet that goal I will be over 5K for the year on my road bike. No more smoke from forest fires, no more commute to Yakima, only one weekend preplanned, and that is a CX race weekend so I'll be riding during it; looks like I am out of excuses so time to embrace the five and dime and meditate on rule #9.

Its gets annoying being layered like the mitchillin man. I HTFU most things but the 3am rides can be transferred to the trainer until I get more light and a nice temperature.

Buy some lights. Get high lumen lights and you are set. A tail light, light for the bars and a light for the helmet and you are set. That coupled with some layering and you are set.

I know how you feel but I wouldnt change it for the world because riding outside, even in winter, brings me so much peace.

I exceeded my goal of 200 in Oct. Going for 250 this month. It's gonna be hard, since I travel 3-4 days a week for work, but I should be able to do it!

I'm at 27.4 as of last night.......

rough way to start the month...Crashed my MTB last night pretty good, crossed wheels, over corrected and ended up getting high sided at 15mph. I held on to the bars to long and punched the ground on impact. Xrays showed nothing major but it is wrapped up. CT scan showed I also bruised my left kidney and large intestine in that area. Doc said no riding or impact sports for 1-2 weeks and I need a new MTB helmet cuz I hit it pretty darn good enough to be dizzy for a few minutes. My oakley jawbones took some impact where my face would have been dragging on the dirt. My niterider 600 cordless survives I had on the helmet and I think the bike is fine, didn't look at it yet.
