Man, canoeing has got to be one of the better things for a cyclist to do when she's not on a bike. My wife and I did some kayaking last summer - oh, gosh, what a great upper body workout!

This post earlier this year I said my goal was to surpass 3500 miles. My how goals change over time. I am over 5K for this year and fully expect to be over 6K next year.

How much elevation gain will you do? 100k feet? ;)

After starting my first organized, group ride since the 1980s last October, and finding that it was a lot of fun even though I had to DNF (due to a bizarre chain of oddities, my granny chainring sheared off my crank near the beginning of a hilly metric century), my goals for 2013 are:

- Lose around 30-40 lbs., which would get me out of the C/A forum, except that it's such a fun place to hang out...

- Build up my new Boulder All Road frame over the winter so I can ride it in the spring

- Ride the Berkshire Brevets St. Patrick's Day 100K

- A week later, ride the Berkshire Brevets Spring 200K

- In late April, ride the Berkshire Brevets Shelburne Falls 200K

- MAYBE, in May, try a 300K brevet, if the 200K's haven't ground me into the pavement

- In June, do Bike Virginia with an old college friend.

- Sometime this summer, do a leisurely bike tour with my wife, staying in B&Bs and seeing the sights wherever we happen to go.

- In October, ride and complete the Great River Ride in Westfield, MA (170K)

- Have fun while doing all these events. If it's not fun, I don't want to do it. But fun is often a retrospective judgment. As long as it seems fun in hindsight, I'll probably do it again....

I've met my mileage goal for 2012, even though I've only had one ride in the past two months. The time change and turning cold at the same time destroyed my motivation. Had to force myself to get in that last 26 mile ride to meet the goal. For 2013, I'm just going to have to suck it up and increase my mileage goal as well as establish a climbing goal.

2013 goal:
5,000 km (3,107 miles)
36,000 meters climbed (118,110 feet)

This works out to: 417km/259mi per month or 96km/60mi per week for mileage and 3,000m/9843ft per month or 692m/2271ft per week climbing.

As far as activities, nothing really specific, except to ride twice my age in miles and three times my age in kilometers on my birthday, (or within a week plus or minus that date).

I'm skeptical if I can meet the climbing goal, but did 116k feet last year without really trying to do so.

2013 goals:

1. lose the "clyde" designation
2. lose the "obese" designation
3. no more than 2200 calories intake per day
4. less than 100 grams net carbs per day
5. burn 1000 calories per day with exercise
6. run a 5k by July 31
7. do a century ride by July 31
8. run/walk 1000 miles during 2013

I started early on these goals. I figured it's better to start right when you get the idea rather than gain 10 lbs during the holidays and start at the beginning of the new year with almost everybody else. I've been at it for 5 weeks. I'm down 16 lbs... and 19 to go to be under 200 lbs. Good luck to everyone in their journey to meet their goals.

I'm thinking that will be a fair bet, perhaps 140k feet. This year since the middle of July I've logged 70k+ feet. I am anticipating doing a century with 8600 feet elevation as just one ride plus my assortment of tough climbs as training rides to build strength. I like to suffer, what can i say.

I am now signed up for a Half Ironman Aquabike (swim+bike, no run) in August. It's a 1.2mi swim followed by a 56mi bike. My brother is doing the Half Ironman (including the run). So while he's out doing his half marathon, I'll be eating cookies in the finisher's tent.

I wasn't going to do any multi-sport events this year (have done Sprint Tris the last 3 years) but the option of not running is in line with the rest of my training this winter and spring.

Rowan 12-28-12 05:39 PM

From 220 down to 180lbs.

A sprint tri is a possibility. Along with a mileage target of 6,250 miles (10,000km).

-------------------------

There's a thread started in the Road forum by which you can register your weight and/or mileage targets for the year, and they will be updated for you by a generous BFer and the charts will even include a graph.

That is, if anyone is interested.

I'd also like to ride a century again. I last did one in 2007. Now that I have knees that work, its time to put them to work.

I need to get my weight down. I've ballooned during my protracted recovery from surgery. Its not flattering, the weight makes me lethargic, and added pounds can cause premature loosening of my joint replacements.

Lets firm these up with some specifics....

My century ride is set up for the MS City to Shore September 29. My goal is to beat my time of 2007. Keep in mind I will be heavier and older than last time. However, I'll have knees that move up and down like pistons instead of sideways like ducks, and a road bike. Time in 2007 was 8 hours 25 minutes.

The August tour is from downtown Pittsburgh to downtown DC. We have a week to do it. We will get it done.

I want to be back to my goal weight of 240. If that sounds high, some of that weight is loose skin. I doubt I can achieve 240 this year without hurting my additional goal of building muscle in both the upper and lower body, but let's see. Meanwhile I'm back tracking my eating like a boss.....

Also, and this isn't my goal, but its a promise I made. There's a poster here who wants to ride the MS City to Shore and he currently is in no shape to do it. One of my goals is to keep him accountable.

Just got your invite, thanks Neil :)

The Oly Triathlon I was thinking about signing up is two weeks before this, so unless I can find another one close to home it may be a bit tight.

I will know more next month!

thanks buddy

Please do bump this thread next December so it is easier to find. For that matter maybe once in July as well to see how folks are doing.

Cycling and fitness related.

In 2012 I managed:
- to get below 90kg
- to finish the Alpine Classic 250km event

In 2013 I'd like to:
- get back below 90kg (sorta crept up in the last 6 months!)
- finish the Alpine Classic faster than last year
- stay more consistent with training (this year I did less KM than either of the previous 2)

It's December and the old year is ready to end! I'm interested in hearing individual goals that are being set for 2013 from my friends here at C/A. I know everyone's thinking about it as the year is coming to a close! :)

I'll start: My goals:
  1. To reach my goal weight of 210 pounds by April 1. If I can manage to maintain current weight through the Holiday season, then that would mean an attainable 1-1/2 pounds per week weight loss during January-February-March to get to goal. :thumb:
  2. My second goal is to ride 2,400 miles in 2013. Many of you probably will quadruple that without thinking (and I used to do much more than that when I was younger - I'll be turning 60 in 2013), but for me right now it's a lofty goal! That would be 200 miles per month average.

Has anybody else thought about their cycling/weight goals for next year yet?

I hoped to make 5000km this year but was away for two months and then had two months where it rained almost non-stop so fell slightly short (about 4500km all in). So I'm going to aim for 5000km again next year. Along the way I'm hoping to do more than one 200k brevet and maybe a 300k.

I'd also like to get my weight down to somewhere in the 210-220 range so I can then assess whether I want to try and shed a bit more.
