Since I'm in Fort Wayne, what shop did you use? I'm weighing a similar build. Also, what was the final price tally?

I used Nebo Ridge in Zionsville. There are plenty of good shops in Indy, but the staff at Nebo and I have clicked very well over the past few years.

Price... ah, I hate to quote it because I figure there will be a stampede of internet knowitalls that bombard me with a 'omg you paid too much.' But price out the door was $2350ish. That price puts you well beyond most factory 105 bikes and a nice steak dinner on the way home, but I wasn't comparing prices with Specialized or Trek with a 105 derailleur and house brand no-name wheels -- I was comparing this build to something crazy like a custom build on a handmade frame (hand built frames from the mountains of Indiana comes to mind). This one was built for me and was as close as I maybe will ever get to a true frame-up custom.

Today, if I wasn't wanting to go fully custom, I'd look seriously at Retroshift / Gevenalle Cyclocross Shifters and mod a factory Cross Check to move the shifters to the brake hoods.
