New Wheel advice

Hi folks, been missing for a few months as I was working overseas, but Im back now.

I got a set of Vuelta Corsa HD wheels for my xmas. I was going to take them into a bike store for tires etc and to have them checked as there is a chip in the braking surface of one of them.

What should I say to the bike store employees? I dont want to seem like a total noobie, what should I ask them to check? Spoke tension etc?

What does the chip look like? It might be nothing to worry about. Can you post a pic?

Why not just say something like "I got these wheels as a gift, could you look them over and make sure they're in good shape?" and point out the chip. Since you're buying the tires/tubes, a good LBS (one that wants you to come back) should mount the tires and give the wheels a spin on the truing stand w/o extra charge.
