Bike Advice for a newbie

hey all, greetings from the emerald isle
been a lurker here for ages so finally decided to take the plunge and sign up, first of all i must say you guys have given me loads of inspiration and ive finally decided to get up off my ass and get back on a bike again, im 6' and in my mid 40s now and tipping the scales at just over 196 kg, 2 months ago i decided to finally attempt to try lose some weight, its been going well and ive lost 14kg already, i find the diet im on now very good and have not had any moments of weakness yet, so its time to start the dreaded exercise lol,
from primary school to my my late 20s i pretty much cycled everywhere, played a lot of sports, soccer gaelic football hurling and rugby and was fighting fit at about 18.5/19 stone but summer of 96 was a bad year had 2 bikes stolen ( Dynatech Mission - i still miss that bike, and its replacement a 2 month old Cannondale m500- never seen again) and managed to damage cartilage in my knee playin rugby so ended up giving up sports and buyin a car and yall can guess the rest.

i now find myself having the urge to get back on a bike and would like some advice as to which direction to go, i have a budget of around €700 or about $850, any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated, i would like to buy an MTB but im a funny shape ( no kiddin lol) what i mean by that is that alltho im 6ft in my socks i have a 30" inside leg and long upper body so i prefer bikes with long top tubes, ive been away from bikes so long that i dunno where to start really as i imagine all the bike geometrys have changed along with the technology, not interested in suspension just would like advice on a good sturdy hardtail, just dunno whether to go mtb, hybrid, touring, 26" or 29" wheels? not askin too much from you guys i hope

I'd vote 19"(L) 29er with disc brakes. Can run knobbies or road slicks 32c to 38c

something like a close out 2012 bike

oh yah that fork has a lock out so will be nice on mellow stuff or pavement.
