Can I Beat 2012's First Quarter Mileage This Month??

I've already crushed Jan 2012's mileage. Admittedly, that's not too hard. Winter has typically been a dead time for me riding outside. My recumbent trike couldn't handle snow deeper than 1 inch without freezing the chain solid in the tubes or rutted ice without potentially destroying the rear derailleur. The only reason I had miles to beat from last January is because we had freakishly little snow. That entire winter, the snow didn't really come until Feb. Very odd for Sweden.

Now, I have a new recumbent and it's been a major kick in the butt motivation wise. I can hammer it through most of the white stuff and thumb my nose at ruts in ice where other bikes went through slush that later froze solid. It's hard work, but I'm loving it. The pitiful 24.5 miles of last Jan has been left in the dust with a total mileage of 44.15. I'm aiming for 120 miles this month which will be more miles than Jan, Feb and March last year. I stand a good chance barring blizzards, temperatures below 23 F (-5 C) or another cold. I suddenly feel so free and driven. I know this intensity might ease as time passes, but I hope I can keep some of it through out the year.

On the weight front, I gained over Christmas, but only 2 pounds. It would have been less if I'd been able to ride, but a bad cold had me laid up for the better part of 3 weeks. The last week of December, I rode 4 consecutive days, lost 1 pound and over an inch in the hips. I've lost another pound and about half an inch since New Years.

I'm well on my way to smashing past last year's 800 mile total. Maybe I can even beat my best ever of 1300. I'm giddy at the idea.

Yes, giddy. Women can be giddy if they wanna be.
