Welcome Ozzie, here we're all Clydes and Athenas who ride bikes with the exception of Isaac which is also great chef and Mr. Beanz who also may or may not look good in lycra!

I am a conservitive and my values are based on Christ teaching. Mark 12: 31 is my instructions on how to treat other people
“ [SUP]31 [/SUP]The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[SUP][g][/SUP] There is no commandment greater than these.”
Don't see any exceptions in that so welcome
P.S. only people I have trouble with keeping this instruction are those who preach hate and claim it is gods word

This thread makes me feel good. So proud of the warmth and acceptance on display. It was incredibly brave of Ozzie to post something so personal and be vulnerable. We all want to know we are not alone on our journey and that is what I feel was the motivation behind Ozzie's original post.

Bingo. That was also why I had been hesistant to ride with a couple of groups that invited me on bike forums. Had chefisaac and callmeclemens not harassed me until I rode with them, and then accept me with such open arms, did I really feel ready to fully immerse myself .

Wow, I just realized something. I'm so straight I had to look up GLBT cause I didn't know what it stood for.

Bikes: I never learned to ride a bike. It is my deepest shame.

I grew up in the south. The capital of the confederacy to be exact. I saw the damage done by segregation. I was very young then, I didnt understand social structure and how it relates to a persons ability to succeed. I do now. Segregation of any group because they are different (assuming they dont have malcontent as a social agenda) is harmful to society at large. It forces then down in general, and then becomes a stereotype, that truly is a misnomer of the population at large. If you hold a group down long enough, you can expect them to be substandard as a group. If you want social equality, you have to accept all groups, and work to provide equal OPPORTUNITY.
I separate who you are and what you are. You could be hetro, and an ass, and I wouldn't like you. You could be LGBT (assuming I got that in the right order) and a decent person and I would love to share an evening discussing a variety of topics.
In my mind people place too much emphasis on what they are vs who they are.

I hadn't invited him to the hike, based on a comment from a mutual friend that he'd suffered a knee injury. If that's not so, my apologies.

I remember years ago on another bike site we had a rather large forum ride. One guy was a flamboyant poster, never posted pics but I could never tell by his fourm name or postings if it was a gal or guy. I honestly thought it was a gal but turned out to be a dude on the ride. The dude was into everything on the forums, every conversation, every topic, cycling or not and always a flamboyant style.
Anyway, the dude had us rolling on the ride, we laughed our asses off the entire time. Gay people, I'd prefer low key but this dude was FLAMBOYANT to the bone but very very funny! Everything the dude said made us laugh climbing 5,000 ft up GMR.
BUT!!! One other poster could not stand him at all. Didn't hide his feeling and if he had, it wouldn't have been hard to see it without words. Strangely this hater guy made a race out of the GMR climb. Like a group of 5 guys laughing their arses off a climb were racing some serious wannabe hero. I think the guy's first post when we returned to the forum was "I beat poser X up the climb"
Later I spoke with the hater when he said "I can't stand that guy". It was clear but I asked anyway, his response was because the flamboyant guy couldn't climb as fast as he had posted on the forums ... yeah right!
Anyway, we had a few more forum rides. Flamboyant Rider X was invited to ride along with a group of about 15 of us with lunch half way through a 70 miler. The hater wasn't invited and he missed a good time. Flamboyant Rider X had a mixed group of us (couples and tandems) rolling in our seats at the restaurant, even Gina thought he was the funniest guy in the world. I wish he still posted but it's been years. I sort of miss the gay guy.
