OK I Give Up

About a month ago (?) I decided to give up bicycle commuting. In that month, I have still ridden my bike a lot, but I did not commute - but now I've decided I miss it and am going to start back on Monday. The thing I miss the most is the morning half of the ride - the crispness in the air, and the way it makes me feel energized when I get to work. So all my friends here can start the chorus of "I told you so" - go ahead -:cry::lol:

good job - do it for you!

Now you're talking! Welcome back....

Ha!

Me too. I'm not going to commute as much as I did, but I'm going to try to ride my bike to work a couple times a month. Today was the first day. Here is my '94 Nishiki Sport XRS, on my commute today (36 miles round trip)

I loved it.

Unfortunately, my home situation does not lend itself to the extra hour or so it costs me on each end of my workday; we have dogs at home and if me, my wife and son are all working, someone has to get home, let them out and feed them. My wife is a teacher and has to stay late a lot of the time for tutoring and meetings, so I'm johnny on the spot. My son works odd shifts though (he's a pharmacy tech) and he had today off, so today was my day to ride to work since the dogs wouldn't be cooped up all day.

Good for you!
Adding to what you said in your post about feeling energized; from the very first week of commuting, my performance at work increased dramatically because I would arrive awake, full of energy instead of stumbling around the coffee machine trying to wake up!

Note: there is a downside to the above.... by nature I'm a kidder/teaser; a office clown, and I would usually start my teasing AFTER having my coffee. Now I usually barge into the office with jokes and such and because most of my co-workers haven't really awaken yet and are still sipping their coffee's, I'm getting quite a few killer stares from them :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Trac: I TOLD YOU SO. I knew it. I knew that you would go back to bike commuting.

I agree with this 1000000%!

Aren't you un-giving up? since you gave up and are now undoing that? :D

Just remember, it really doesn't have to be an all or nothing thing.

Y'all hit the nail right on the head. Especially Telly in post 6, the difference in how I feel when I arrive at work is amazing. I'm starting back Monday . . .

I miss it terribly but with my wife starting work at 6:00am somone has to get the 2, 4, and 6 year olds to their respective school and babysitter. There is no way logistically for it to work out since my school kids cannot be dropped until 7:45. I just have to wait till summer.

Good on you for getting back to it. I also love the crisp morning air. Luckily I live in a community with little to no smog.

Did it! This week I worked Mon thru Thursday (today) and bicycled three of the four days. Good to be back into the commuting lifestyle!
