Sunday trail ride

So, today was our first trip to a rails to trails site. Started at the north end of the Seminole Wekiva trail, rode almost 8 miles down, turned around and had lunch trailside. 16 miles isn't very far, but it's the farthest ride for my sister in law who is the most out of shape.

About 4 miles out of the trailhead, we ran into a race. Apparently, there was an Orlando Road Club race in town, and having them blow by on the road at 20+ MPH while we're on the trail at 8 is both impressive and discouraging (felt like I was riding with training wheels again).

Nice trail, lots of woods, lots of commercial real estate, bike shops, eateries right on the trail. We'll be back, we'll get all 28 miles of that trail covered soon enough, then maybe work on heading toward Oviedo on the cross Seminole trail.

Both are very nice trails. I enjoyed them very much. If you head out that way again, give me a shout.

I just joined Florida Freewheelers and went on my first ride with them (you don't need to be a member though) - it was graded a "social" ride ... Which means fairly slow and they don't drop you. It was 30 miles starting in Oviedo on the Cross Seminole trail to Cady Way Trail to Orlando Urban Trail around Winter Park and Rowlins College - the back along the Cady and Seminole. Was a fun ride, not too long, not that fast and good company. Check out Florida Freewheelers. ~Bill

We're going back to the Seminole Wekiva trail this Sunday. Planning to arrive at the Markham trail head around 10:30, ride to Lake Mary boulevard and have lunch at Panera or the Peach whatever, and then finish the southern end and return. Riding pace in our group-5 family members- is probably 11ish MPH, with a fair bit of chatter, so definitely a social ride. If you want to join us, feel free to PM and we can adjust time and other details.
