Yesterday Fate farted in my face. Today she was at least marginally kinder. Didn't have a whole lot of time before the rush hour started (and our local roads really aren't a lot of fun in the rush, so decided to go for a shorter ride but put a bit of power down. Still had some headwinds on a couple of false flats but nowhere near as brutal as yesterday and no hailstones in my face at speed. Took a slightly longer route, took in one of the local hills (which feels easier on the Durano Plus tyres than it did on the Marathon Plus), enjoyed a long slow decline (got to 29mph) and then paced a guy on a Specialized Allez who looked like he weighed a good 50+ pounds less than me. Don't know how hard he was pushing, I had to push fairly hard to keep pace with him. One of those situations where I could have blown past him but I knew if I did I'd promptly blow up and he'd go past me again, so I just tucked in a safe distance behind him.
Fate was nicer to me today, I got home just as it started to rain.

Four great commute days boosted my mileage this month up to 734 miles and climbing to 27,493'.
Off on furlough today so headed out on the CX bike as soon as the temps come up a little for some trail riding fun.

Managed to get out today in the terribly cold, windy, sleet infested spring we're having here in Indiana. Had planned on a much longer ride but just couldn't take it with the cold and wind.
4/19 - 17.5 miles at 12.8 mph with 267 ft of climb
Definitely going to get more mileage in later this weekend.

we've been having quite a bit of wind here lately. Missed a couple of days for it this week and a couple last week. Hope it calms down and stays that way or I won't make my goal for the month.

4/19 - 48.3 miles. Spring has returned, at least for a few days. I used a high school baseball away game as an excuse to ride to the north side of town. 1500' higher and 10 degrees cooler there but it was a fun ride. I happened upon a herd of nine pronghorn antelope down below me grazing in a field on the way home.

Getting ready to go out and do a group ride. Distance is listed as less than 20 miles. If its less than 15, I'll go out a bit on my own afterwards.
Also, I ordered some clipless pedals, and shoes. The shoes arrived yesterday, but not the pedals. That's just mean. I was hoping to try them out this week. I guess I'll have to wait until Tuesday. I guess its not too bad, I wouldn't take my first trip clipless on a group ride, and group rides do beat going solo.

Took a break from cycling yesterday and went for a walk with my wife, and ended up walking 13 miles. Then today I went for another ride, this time with a friend. He was recently given a bike - a rather old bike that's nothing to write home about but it's two wheels and a set of pedals and it works well enough for him to ride for a bit before he buys himself a more suitable bike. Today we just took a quick tour of a few local roads, a couple of local hills, and a nice decent to round it off. I got to 32.5mph on the descent - might have made it faster but we didn't go into the hill full tilt and had to be aware of traffic today.
Only 104 to hit the month's target and technically only 57 to go to hit the month's target excluding the accumulated deficit so far this year. Would be nice to chew into it a bit more even if I can't eliminate it completely just yet.
April 1 - 6 miles
April 2 - 26 miles
April 6 - 129 miles
April 14 - 15 miles
