How are you spending Memorial Day Weekend on bike? Or not?

Im all excited for the kickoff to Summer Weekend! Not getting much done at work today more concerned with where I will be riding. I had 2 undocumented goals for May a 50Mile straight shot ride which is done, but I also want to do my first Metric. The wife is working tonight and tomorrow night so I plan on hitting the miles hard tonight and tomorrow.

Other then that I am hoping to get a nice recreational ride in there and if time permits finding a group ride.

For my "or not", Have a gradution party and planning to see Hangover 3 and Fast 6 at the drive in, so I will definately need to do some riding to burn off all the beer this weekend!

Have a good Memorial Day everyone

I will be riding with several members of a local cycling club on what has formally been dubbed as the "Wild Wild West Weekend Tour."
This will see 2 roughly 70 mile days, staying overnight at some villas in a golfing community in north central Florida.
Looks as if a passing front will lower the temperatures into a comfortable zone. I just hope that it isn't windy!
Maybe I'll make it home on Sunday in tome to catch some of the Indy 500!

Have a happy and safe Memorial Day Weekend, y'all!

I have a few rides planned starting tonight:

LBS does a group social ride from their shop to the farmer's market. I did it two weeks ago and it was a blast. We ride a little bit in the country, at night. 16+ miles total. Saturday morning will be 30-40+ ride with my buddy. Sunday morning the LBS will be doing a breakfast ride to a diner that's a big bike supporter. 26+ miles. Monday morning the LBS (these guys are awesome and do a lot of community rides) is doing a short 2.5 mile ride to this "farm" place. Combination between market and tourist attraction with a lot of vintage farm equipment and bikes. I haven't been in there in 15-20 years. I'll bike to the shop so it will be another 17 I think. And finally, Monday night is an A class ride. Short at 6.5 miles so I'll ride there and back. Another 25+ miles.

If I lack the ability to actually move my legs on Tuesday morning I'll be just fine with that.

Unlike you masochists, I'll be grilling up a storm this weekend. I got these neat-o replacement grates for my gas grill (grillgrate.com) that worked wonders on some steaks I grilled Monday, so I need to test those out again to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Not one flareup! Monday I have every intention of smoking some big ol' piece of meat all day in my smoker. I haven't decided whether I'm doing ribs or a pork butt.

And you're welcome...

i am taking this weekend off. my wife is in town for a little bit and i have to pack up the house to get ready to move. i really pushed hard this week and reached my monthly goal so this will be my little reward. i'll try not to fall off the wagon diet wise, but this will be a nice little break for my quads which are shot anyway. also getting the bike tightened up after the first 100 mile break in, so it's all fallen into place for a lazy weekend.

everyone enjoy!

Tonight is Fast 6 and I have a rear flat I need to swap tubes on.

Saturday morning will be a 21 mile 700 foot climb with the LBS, with a 18 mile round trip to the shop and back. Then either Sunday or Monday I'll do another 3 to 4 hour ride that should measure in the 50 mile range.

Both of those will get me past my record month and my goal for the month.

Like 90% of the rest of my office, I took today (Friday) off.

I got up at normal time (5am) and swam at the gym and then after coffee took a ride around the country block. It was chilly (41 deg) and windy, so I came back early.

I plan to paint the house and get some miles down. If things go right, it'll be 50 mile weekend (20 on Sat, 30 on Mon).

Those still exist? WOW. In college, I owned a mobile-DJ company. I built a car stereo and BIG amp into an ice chest, threw that and my 18" Cerwin-Vega speakers into the truck and organized drive-in parties almost every weekend. We had a blast. We'd put lawn charis out, drive the amp off the 12v at my hitch and invite anyone driving by to join the party. We had regulars that we never knew their name. Ah, good times. Now land is too expensive in LA and I think all but one or two drive-ins are gone from SoCal.

Sorry...what were we talking about? Oh yah, I rode this morning, and should be able to ride both Saturday and Sunday, nothing too big, though. Disneyland on Monday.

I don't know if we believe you actually got this from Grillgrates.com, but it is neat'o!

Not too many left here either I think 5 or 6 left in all of Wisconsin and rumors of last season for the one in Kenosha It brings me back to when I was a kid in the 70's and they were common. Plus sucks paying $20 to sit in a theatre! I would do what you mention with the car stereo but rather spend the money on bikes but I think about it everytime im at the drive in.

I plan to ride at least two, if not all 3 days of the long weekend.

We always go to my parents house at the Jersey Shore (Sea Isle City) for Memorial Day... I'm looking to better last weekend for sure... probably a total of about 50 to 60 miles split between 1 or 2 good long training rides (Saturday and Monday hopefully) - with one of those being at least 20 and hopefully 25 miles. I also plan at least one pleasure ride along the Sea Isle promenade with my wife and daughters.

My wife is at the Jersey Shore also, Beach Haven, Long Beach Island. After I wipe away the tears of missing her I guess I'll try to get some miles in too.

I started my weekend last night riding up Blackstar Canyon to Beeks Place. Today I am doing an easy road ride with my guy out to the beach. tomorrow I am doing North Ridge, Chino Hills, back on the mountain bike. Monday - haven't decided. Probably road bike to the beach - just seems a fitting place to ride on a holiday. Or maybe down to Mt. Laguna (San Diego County near Julian) to see if the wildflowers have popped out a little more.

Parting shot of North Ridge - the route is 14 miles. the climb is 6 miles, 2800' elevation:

Went out and got my first 20 mile ride this morning - in 87 minutes (14 mph average)... in 15 - 25 mph winds so I'm pretty happy with that average speed.

It was all on the island, so it was almost entirely flat. It is likely too windy for the rest of the day for a family bike ride, so I may end up with a run and family ride tomorrow (5 - 8 miles I'd guess) and then my own little duathlon of run/ride/run on Monday if I can plan it in... I'll TRY for my first 25 mile ride.

Working with the sibs Saturday to get my late fathers place ready for sale. An emotional process, slowed by not wanting to let go of that otherwise simple man's impressive legacy. He built it himself in 1978, with the help of guys he knew from his years in the construction trades. Everyday I am there I keep running into more examples of his craft.

60 mile solo Sunday including portions of next weeks SD Century (I'll be riding the Metric).

Monday going to a BBQ that some one else is hosting
