New guy here...just got my bike one week ago. Road about 40 miles the first week in between our afternoon thunderstorms. Shooting for at least 200 miles in July.

MTD - 10.81 km / 160 km
TTD - 36.07 km

After a rough spring where work got in the way of cycling I'm back to hopefully mostly bike commuting. Add in a one day STP (link) that is good for 204 miles and I think I might just be able to hit 600+. Missing today due to 100°+ temps

My goal is simple. See if I can go on the new Rubaix where I used to go on the Fuji. The Fuji is laid up so I finally poneyed up for a Rubaix Elite with Apex. Gonna see how far I can go. 25.5 so far in the rain Monday. We'll see what the rest of the month has to offer.

OK I Bought a cheap tandem, a used Pacific Dualie, in new condition just stored a long time. I know we ain't gonna win no races with this bike. In truth the stoker (Rear seat??) will get all she can stand with this one. But rides in parks, MUP's and some around the city. If She decides she wants more, we will get more bike. Anyway we need to learn. We were so surprised, it is not as difficult as it looks. Now if the heavy rains will cease and desist!

Goal 200

got in a good short ride after work. Tackled my local backyard hill w/ a 3 block warm up...which sucked.

7/2- 16.9mi - 1,249ft - 01:02:05 https://app.strava.com/activities/64371934

Goal...lets call it 350 since I'll be mostly on the road due to my sprained ankle.

Took it easier today but at a comparable distance of 5.64km, need to keep working at my fitness level so I can spend more time pedaling and less time coasting, I think I'm going to focus on that for the next little while while keeping to the 5.64 and 5.67km routes I've used the last two days.

MTD 16.45 km / 160 km
TTD 41.71 km in 10 days

Finally starting to feel better. No rides yet this month, but I'm planning a 35-40 mile ride tomorrow, round-trip S.F. to Tiburon.

Now that I return to commuting either this week of next I'm going to set my goal at 500mi. That's my commute plus 140mi more.

Weather has ruined my distances so far this month, been going out in between rain storms, or when it lightens up.

MTD:
7/1 Morning ride washed out at 2.4 miles speed 17.5mph. Evening ride, in a sunset was 5.9mi speed 15.5
7/2 In the rain, with roadwork going on 4.5mi ad 14.5 mph
7/3 8mi at 16mph
Total : 20.8/500

YTD 503.2/1000 (I've never reached 1000mi in a year best effort was 908)

Thought I posted yesterday, but I can't find it... so first update for the month.

7/1: 5 miles
7/2: 22.7 miles
7/3: 58.6 miles

Total MTD: 86.3 miles

I'm going to leave the 400 mile goal for the month... and I'm off to a great start at it, but reality is that I expect to be somewhere between 300 and 350 for the month when all is said and done... but 400 as a stretch goal will work for now.

I'm gonna set a goal of 25 miles for the month... why so low? I'm a 6 weeks post op for torn meniscus, torn cartilage, and a Grade 2 PCL tear in my knee. I completed my final PT session today. The Doc says I can complete the rehab on my own and recommended walking and riding - no need for any more supervised PT. I also got the OK to start some light skating from the therapist..... To make things even better (worse?), a really good friend that had gotten me to clean 20 years of dust off my bikes this past January died suddenly from a heart attack after his first ride of the season in April - shortly before I got the diagnosis on my knee. Up until I hurt my knee we had made plans of riding together regularly. So now, I am sitting here a sore knee, no riding partner, and an extra 50 pounds that I didn't have 6 months ago..... I figure that I could start out just spinning a mile or two after work weather & time permitting....

Rode my favourite waterfront route for a total of 31.5 km. It was sunny but there was some wind so it was quite comfortable.

July 3 - 31.5km

MTD - 31.5

I set a small goal like that last month as well. This is my 3rd week biking, and I told myself I would only do 50 miles last month, I did over 60. Once you start riding, you keep adding miles. It's an obsession in the end.

My goal for the month is 350. I'm doing this week and next week on one on;one off scheduling. So, will be slow this first month, but I will succeed!

Yesterday racked on 6 miles before a pinch flat forced me to walk 2 miles to a pickup location from my ride. Tomorrow is my bike ride day, shooting for 15 minimum, hopefully 20 to try and recoup from yesterday.

MTD total: 6 miles.

Yeah, it has been really addictive! Right now I'm focusing more on getting my fitness level up to where I pedal more and coast less before I add anymore distance. I hope the rain clears up today at some point so I can get out there.

I know what you mean about building endurance. 2 weeks ago, I was doing 5-6 mile rides, trying to build up endurance, but feeling like my biking world was too small. So, last week I set out to do 10 miles to prepare my body for long distance endurance, I ended up doing 14 miles that day, distance dwindled during the week, one day of rest, 14 miles again. Now, 5 miles is a warm up for me, and I can average ~14mph in those 5 miles, where as I used to be only able to average ~9. I guess what i'm trying to say is, regardless of how much you train for the short run, the long run will always be in front of you, and it's better to prepare now, then be hit with it later. You can still do short rides, the past 2 i've done this week have been 6 and 5 miles, but the long run training has helped me increase my short distance time.

As for the weather, southeast Florida has been hit hard these past few weeks. In the morning, it has been dry and beautiful, but the afternoons and night have been horrible. I'm hoping that if this morning is a reflection of this afternoon, I can try and get 10-15 miles in later.
