So I went for my first ride around the park. It was embarrassingly short, but the wind in my face felt amazing.

I will be ordering cycling shorts immediately, than the rear-end pain is serious.

Thank you all for your support and encouragement.

Congratulations on your first ride!

Keep in mind that it does take a week or two for your butt to adapt to the saddle.

awesome... as mentioned it takes a bit of time for the saddle area to acclimate... don't overdo it and bruise anything down there... I remember first getting back into cycling and doing a 10 or so mile ride the 2nd day I had the bike... I couldn't sit on the saddle for a week it hurt so bad.

That wind in the face part is what gets you hooked! Your butt gets used to it.

And going, "Wheeeeee!" down hills. Let's not forget that all important part.

Congrats on the first ride. I also just got back on the bike again after a year of laziness. I did 4 miles first time out and it felt good but tiring. It's been hot as heck or raining but I am getting out there when I can. It's not the time or distance that's important when you first start out. It's the fact you are out there that matters. You will build up endurance as you continue to ride.

Congratulations and keep us updated.

Keep after it, every second on the bike is one less on the couch.
