I got in a rare afternoon ride. Along the way I decided I was just SICK and TIRED of my seat always tipping back, no matter how hard I tighten the bolt. I stopped by my favorite bike shop and they had a replacement in stock for $15. Not bad for a boutique bike shop in the downtown district. Having a firmly anchored seat makes the ride so much more pleasurable.

I'm getting as many miles as I can before the weather turns colder and wet, which it will and soon. 20.3 miles today, then lots of leaves got raked up.

Chilly ride this afternoon, some monster gusts of headwind (according to weather.com 20-23mph gusts) on half the ride, and if that wasn't enough I actually got rained on half way through the ride which was a cold surprise (damn meteorologists can't get anything right!).

10/25: 31.3 miles - No reason in particular, just a ride.

MTD: 121.7 miles (Goal: 200 - Still have one ride reserved that should put me close to reaching this goal.)
YTD: 1,164.5 miles (Goal: 1,000 - Accomplished last month)

Found out my friend won't be able to make the century ride we've planned for this weekend, so we're shooting for a possible Halloween ride but I have a feeling he's done for the season-we'll see what happens next Thursday I guess.

For the first time in a while, I carried the bike to the start of a ride. I had to take my car to the dealer for some service (new timing belt) and took my bike with me so I could run errands while the car was being worked on. I rode back past downtown to the restaurant where I left my credit card a couple nights ago, grabbed some breakfast, took the bike to the bike shop downtown and got the headset replaced (yeah, maintenance day for both the car and the bike), walked around downtown taking some pictures and getting some coffee while I waited for the bike. Once the bike was done, I rode back out to the dealership, loaded it back on the car and drove home. It was a full day.

The patriotic background is in a viaduct under a rail bridge on a road leading into downtown. The city sponsors painting programs, often by elementary school students, as part of their graffiti abatement program. I guess the feeling is that if you or your younger siblings painted it, you're less likely to paint gang tags over it.

Anyway, I got in a pretty good 30 mile ride today.

Great fall weather, perfect for cycling. Raced in my seventh CX race of the season today. Had a minor solo crash on the first lap when I hit the transition (a two-inch lip) between grass and a raised asphalt playground at an angle and went down. Bashed my knee up pretty good on the asphalt. Got up, jumped on, and kept racing. Didn't notice that my knee was banged up until after the race. The combined effects of adrenaline, Red Bull, and whatever goodies are in my asthma inhaler masked the pain.

My daughter came to watch and fixed my little booboo after the race with a couple of Bandaids that had pictures of pirates on them. Perfect for CX. When I got home I used this "injury" as an excuse to lounge on the sofa and watch some college ball.

Between warmup and the race, added another 10 miles to this months total.

Mileage for the month = 399
Closing in on 10,000 miles for the year

If you get a new personal best of, oh, 34 miles, you'll make it to 300. Go go go!

It was just a little cloudy when I left on my ride today...

I went down the canyon 8 miles and it started to rain. The wind was blowing hard. I decided to turn around. It started raining more intensely.

The picture wasn't pretty: 48*F, hard rain, very windy. I got to the car completely soaked and with the wind blowing, it cooled me down fast.

I did get 16 miles in, anyway.

Goal: 200 miles

The usual Sunday Night Pub Crawl Ride. This picture seems a bit dreamlike to me. Not the best picture I took all night, but my favorite.

It was such a good ride that I didn't feel like pausing to take any pictures. So I took one when I got home.

Ran the Marine Corp Marathon on Sunday. I'll add that to the 'stupid things I've done in my life' list. It's by far(!) not a short list and that event is near the top 10 on the list for sure.
Haven't felt inspired to do anything since.

October:
Running: 135.6 miles/ 6,067' gain
Riding: 320 mi / 16,871' gain

YTD:
Running: 623 mi / 30,227' gain
Riding: 5,236 mi / 286,088' gain

+680 miles on the stupid trainer.

Another 44 miles of running and you got this!

I'll 'give' you the century for the 18+ mph effort on the 10/26 ride even though it's only 55'/mi gain. Next month I won't

I like your humor!!! I might run another 3-4 miles today and that will wrap up my running activities for the week. I need more climbing miles on the roadie for an event that popped up next weekend. Also need to take my roadie on some local dirt fire roads and test out the tires, but need to wait til the mud dries up some...damn rain in socal is messing up my plans

my weekend was a bust for riding, to many family obligations and rain, yesterday came along and I NEEDED to ride badly but I was on a tight deadline for school that I managed to get turned in about 30 min before the time closed out... so finally I got a ride today took the road bike as I want to try and put more miles on it... along with the 32c tires I put on it my last ride I put my brooks b17 on it... I think if I could get the bars up another 5-10mm it would be about perfect...anyway the ride... heavy winds 13mph speed and gusts... aka a pretty steady heavy wind... i'm not sure if it was my breakfast or the effort into the wind on the first 1/2 of the ride but I was spent for the second 1/2 and putzed my way home... still it was a much needed ride and the more I ride the road bike the more I'm liking it

also a second ride int he afternoon with my 8y/o son
