3 degree wind chill so I ran 5.5 miles outside then spent another 90 minutes on the trainer. I can't wait until this weather is out of here. Way(!) too much time inside on the trainer
Jan:
Running: 49 miles/ 3,061' gain
Riding: 76 mi / 3,934' gain
Trainer: 649 mi (36hr 03min)

Only 59 hours (1,069 miles) on the trainer since 10 Dec
For those that are thinking about being on a trainer for that long I can only say:
1. You better LOVE(!) your saddle
2. Streaming movin pictures are a beautiful thing
3. Trainer Road
I just want to grow up to be like jsigone who's ---->

Mind you, it's a cheap, loud, magnetic with low resistance. At least I see some huge speeds,

I have 2/3 of your trainer miles this month (never would have happened without Trainer Road) and even though I love my saddle I start to dislike it at 45 minutes and seethe with rage towards it at 90 minutes on the trainer.
I was trying to keep up but you have just HTFUed beyond anything I can manage.
I bow to your superior trainer tolerance.
Count: 23 Activities
Time: 26:10:05 h:m:s
Distance: 432.32 mi
Made my 24 hour goal, though. I might hit 28.
I wanna be a Cat 5 this year and crash lots. Just need to work on my big weaknesses - I don't deal with being over threshold very well, and I don't recover fast enough during tough intervals... Since there are pretty much just crits around here those weaknesses kind of defeat the point.
At least I'll be more fit than I have ever been in my entire life when I hit 40 this summer, but that's not really saying much.

Do "MACLURE" a few times. It's ONLY(!) 3 hrs in length.
Sounds as if you should be doing "Powell" at least once a week. My coach told me to focus on TT length rides as I am best at that discipline. Translated is "You suck the least at TT's, race those."
Tonight is Round Bald; 3x30 @ 85% pFTP
You will surpass me next month and March easily. Surgery to repair a shoulder which totaled a F-150 last year so I'll be on the couch for 8-12 weeks according to the Doc
Only(!) 40? I don't even remember those days.

Tried Powell tonight, failed halfway through. Just couldn't hold it, couldn't get enough oxygen to my legs.
It is the last workout in the Sweet Spot Intermediate Base II training plan, which I was about to start. I'll work my way through that and hopefully it gets me a bit closer to being able to handle it. Need to keep some perspective, I'm expecting too much to quickly. It's tough to appreciate what I've accomplished when my goals are so deceptively simple.
Got to have patience, I guess. Or EPO, which seems like overkill for someone who hasn't even raced a single race. Two years ago I couldn't go up a few flights of stairs without getting winded, and I really haven't been trying to actually train for that long.

[QUOTE=3rdcoast;16446549]I didn't list a mileage goal this month, but just realized I'm at 18 rides this month and almost 400 miles. Weather is crappy the next two nights so will probably get one more ride in this month.

Awful riding conditions around here most of January and my work schedule was a bit insane but still managed to get in 110 miles (not counting trainer). If the weather improves even marginally, I want to double that next month. Here's to an early spring

T0ok advantage of the sun today and rode to an appt instead of driving. I had said I would do 100km this month but I was able to surpass that because of the unusually warm dry winter we've had so far.

1/2 -- 21.8 miles, 945'
1/3 -- 25.1 miles, 1453'
1/4 -- 46.8 miles, 1654' (should have eaten on this one; last hill before home was tough!)
1/6 -- 21.6 miles, 935' and in the low 30s. Clingfilm wrapping my toes in my shoes!
1/7 -- 21.6 miles, 938', also cold and no I have no cold weather gear.
1/9 -- 21.6 miles, 938'. Weather warmed up and ran it as a tempo ride.
1/10 -- 20.2 miles, 1322'. Don't ride up a canyon in gusty weather when you've got to get back to work for a con call. Just sayin'.
1/11 -- 38.7 miles, 3494'. Testing myself, my gearing, and my nutrition on some longer climbs. Fun stuff.
1/12 -- 20.3 miles, 1893'. Wicked, wicked windy, so confined myself to more sheltered areas and some climbing
1/13 -- 16.2 miles, 827'.
1/17 -- 26.2 miles, 1512'. Back from the work trip
1/18 -- 32.8 miles, 2605'. Had to get over 500km.
1/19 -- 21.5 miles, 935' -- time for the standard cruise at a nice moderate HR
1/20 -- 23.7 miles, 1257'
1/21 -- 20.5 miles, 883'. Was trying the REI Novara Tempest tights, and /hated/ them. Need to find something more built for me.
1/24 -- 21.2 miles, 938'
1/25 -- 61.2 miles, 1729' -- longest ride ever, and kept it nice and flat.
1/27 -- 20.2 miles, 880' -- Midday spin
1/28 -- 19.4 miles, 880' -- fighting headwinds all the way out, but got a nice clip coming home:https://www.strava.com/activities/109609737
1/29 -- 19.6 miles, 1385'
1/31 -- 9 miles, 850' -- nice cruise with the girl before the weather (which never did close in)
MTD: 530 miles, 28,728' of climbing (now I'm tempted to go and ride around the neighborhood twice just to hit 30k')
My goal was 600km for the Strava challenge, so I punked it.

It /is/ a HUGE amount of trainer miles. Jimminy.
Game over for me too; one more ride brings me within 1% of 30k, and I'm calling that Strava Margin Of Error.
One extra ride for 14.4 miles and 1400' of elevation gives me
January's totals: 22 rides, 544 miles, 29,669' of climbing.

Didn't make my goal of around 150 miles for the month of January, but content with the 106.5 miles I eked out, given that I'm still nursing a sore shoulder. Given how long things take to heal as we get older, I suspect it'll be bothering me for months, but I can ride now which is the important thing. Especially since I've returned the borrowed car!
Looks like at the minimum I'd be riding about 225 miles just commuting, via the shortest routes. I want to try out some longer routes, both on my way in and on my way home, as well as getting in some recreational miles on my days off, so I'll set my goal for February at 300 miles.

Watch your dog run away for a week flat = < 35'/mile
Flat = 36 - 50'/mi
Moundy = 51 - 75'/mi
Bumpy = 76 - 100'/mi
Hilly = 101' - 125'/mi
Climby = 126' - 150'/mi <-----------------This is laps around IBOHUNT neighborhood
Really? >151'/mi
