Jerseys...

So, being a clyde (male) and wearing XL t-shirts, I was wondering what you are all wearing for jerseys? I'd prefer looser cut jerseys, I currently have a Canari Sport (or the old version of that one) in XXL and it fits nice. teeny bit snug, but fits. I drop some lbs, and its gonna fit better! However, the center zippered rear pocket SUCKS and is useless. I want the typical 3-pocket jersey so I can have a granola bar or something like that.

I'd prefer to keep price around $40 or so, nothing extravagant, plain colors are just fine by me (actually prefered).

Thanks guys!

There is no way to make these suggestions, as each person, brand, etc. is different. You're just going to have to go to a store and try them on. If you like looser jerseys, I would suggest mountain bike jerseys, or jerseys labeled "club cut". They tend to have a looser fit. The bottom line, though, is that you're just going to have to try them on in person.

Is anyone using the Aero Tech designs Solid color bike jersey?

Good price. Plain, but I'm ok with that, too. Made in USA...

The jerseys made by Pace for many companies such as Park tool tend to be cut larger than average. They're also cut less tapered, and the quality isn't bad.

Other than that, it's a matter to trial and error, because there's no real standard to sizing.

TrojanHorse 01-26-14 08:04 PM

I have one Canari jersey and it is decidedly larger than the rest of my jerseys! It's the only one I can wear that's an XL, the rest are XXL.

There's not much point to a loose, floppy jersey though, they flap around when you're riding and don't provide the cooling benefit of a properly fitted jersey.

As for fit, find a Performance bike shop near you - their house brand tends to be reasonably priced and larger than your average European brand. You will need to either try them on individually or find a website that accepts returns and pays shipping both ways.

Pace and Champion Systems seem to be pretty true-to-size-ish - I wear XL t-shirts and XXL jerseys and I'm pretty happy with the club fit of those jerseys.

Just tried on my XXL Primal Wear 3 Monkeys Jersey I bought here... YEARS ago.

If I lose 10lbs by spring, its going to fit ok. Heck, I could wear it now, to be honest! That is Primal's "Club" fit style...

I also had a member her offer a few like new barely used XXL Jerseys... and I may take him up on the offer. Fitting into slightly snug jersey's might be really really good motivation to keep hitting up my exercise bike and tightening my diet!

Also tried on my OLD (2000-01) FOX mtb jersey (mesh). XL size, and while it doesn't fit as good as it did then (I was 195 at most then, 225ish now) it actually fit OK... Haven't worn that since 2005...

Thank you all for the responses. I don't want a jersey so loose that its floppy, but I don't want skin tight, either. I have some work to do, and I now have motivation more than earlier today :) That 3 Monkeys jersey is a little silly, but I've always wanted to fit it so I can wear it :winter:

Yeah, welcome to the club. :D They are supposed to be form fitting but I'm right there with you on not wanting to look like an over stuffed sausage casing.

Right now the Primal jersey is just a teeny bit snug, too. Talk about motivation!

if it's any comfort to you, I have an old Primal jersey with a big ol' shark on it (It has to be 16 or 17 years old) and it is more snug than an identically sized new(er) primal jersey. Both are XXL. :)

I get my jersey's from nashbar. plenty of choices for low cash. Louis Garneau has some comfortable options.

the prices on the house brand make it hard to find too much fault.

and dont forget the "returns and factory seconds" page for even better deals. sometimes you can get pretty lucky.

I like the Aero Tech jerseys. I use the cheap ones for commuting, and the nicer Coolmax jerseys for weekend rides. They are looser fitting jerseys, not the usual racers cut. There is a bit more room in the chest and stomach. Their size chart seems to be right on. I wear a XXXL and it fits well in chest, and a bit longer than usual.

Really go to Target, they make tech shirts (wicking, light weight fabric that should come in your size). I believe JC Pennys and Landends also make tech shirts that work well for cycling.

If you want a cycling specific jersey, keeping it in the $40 price range is hard but I think Performance, Aerotech and Mt. Borah may have some that work. If you need to carry a bar someplace, get a Bento Bag to mount on the bike.

I currently use Champion Designs active shirts from Target! But I want cycling specific for the pockets. I don't care to put anymore bags on my roadie!

I will likely order one from aerotech (their cheap, but made in USA ones) JUST to see how the fit is, but like I said I am probably getting some for not much cash off a very generous member on here :) I need shorts from Aerotech anyway, so why not try out a jersey as well?

All I can think about here at work is getting on the exercise bike when I get home. Woo Hoo!

I have just got a jersey in sport wool from torm.cc it's an XL and is borderline tight for me ( while an XL from pearl izumi is quite bigger ). it's COMFY compared to regular tech material... VERY COMFY.

I wear XL bike jerseys that are a little snug. If they are 'European' cut, I'll go XXL. I really don't care what others think. I'd rather be cool during hot weather rides.

However sometimes you need to go with your strengths. Here's one of my favorite jerseys and it's gotten me interviewed on TV twice during the Tour de Donut!

Whatever you do, don't let it hang down over part of your butt. That look is nearly as bad as wearing sleeveless with arm warmers.

Wanderer 01-28-14 09:46 AM

After you get one, let us know how they are, please. I need something to fit over my fat, and they also look long enough to tuck in shorts.

digibud 01-28-14 09:59 AM

I wear xl shirts but in jerseys all bets are off. I have a bit of a gut and am returning a xxxl jersey that just falls down and wraps onto my lower belly looking absurd. I have an xxl jersey that looks just fine. I can't wear anything approaching a normal tight cut. For me, the kind of material that the jersey is made of and the cut are important. Coolmax is a clingy material that will lay on my belly and looks nasty on me. I do need to use a jersey for long rides or I have to bring a large saddle pack for snacks and such but finding jerseys that fit is indeed difficult for me.

Do you mean the Aerotech jersey's? I won't get one for a little bit, its cold and snowy. But when I do, I can surely do a little write up!

One thing I know for sure, I really like Aerotech's "Prob Bike Short" with the thin padding and 8 panel design. I don't like the HUGE diaper-size pads, they are just too much. I've had the shorts for about 4-5 years now and they are holding up quite well. I'll be getting another pair, or two!

I like Love2pedal.com for jerseys. They come in large sizes and have some interesting ones. My kids got me a Fat Bastard and an Old Fart one. Love them both.

I got one as a gift, it fits fine, but I hate solid color jerseys.

Someone failed to read my original post. By about 3x the cost.

:roflmao2:

Not knocking the product, or your company, but seriously?

bbeasley 02-19-14 04:28 PM

I have one of the inexpensive aero techs and it's been just fine. I'm 5'7" 210 lbs and wear an XL. If this helps I also wear an XL in a Nike drifit t shirt
