I am looking for some wider pedals and some MTB/Road shoes that i can use regularly or clip ins. Maybe a starter set of clip in pedals. i am size 14 and have never used any kind of clip in's. i ride on bike trails and around town just to get to the trail. When i take off from a stop it seems like it takes me about 10 seconds or so to get my clod hoppers in the right position on the pedals, and i get in a hurry to get going. any help will is appreciated.

I also use Shimano PD-M324 pedals on my hybrid and Shimano PD-A600 on my road bike. The PD-M324's are nice on the hybrid because they are dual sided, you don't have to use the clips if you don't want. This is nice when I go for a quick ride with the kids and don't need the shoes.

Beware. For bigger/heavier riders, especially those with big feet (13EE here), when you start riding clipless pedals you may find that the soles of your shoes aren't stiff enough and you start getting hot spots on your feet in the cleat area.

More expensive shoes - those with carbon fiber soles - are much, much stiffer and you won't suffer hot spots.

They can also cost well over $200-$300 a pair.

I wear a size 13 Specialized Tahoe shoe. I love em. I also use the below Pedals. Pretty easy to find a good spot taking off.

I'm sporting a size 14 too and went with a cheaper pair which has proven to be pretty good so far. I bought the Surfas Radium Road shoes in a size 49 which fit really well, have a nice stiff sole, and accept both styles of cleats. Just for reference when I buy tennis shoes I always get a 14w. I just bought last years model of this same shoe. It is the Shimano M087. Be aware that Shimano has what they call a volume plus toe box which gives you extra room from the ball of the foot forward. So unless you have a really wide foot you may not need a wide shoe.

The shoe has a really stiff sole. I mean really stiff. I love mine and they are very comfortable. I run Crank Brothers Candy 2 pedals and use them on my road bike. I am sold on the Shimano shoes.

i have medium width size 14 feet
and i have had very good luck with sidi shoes in size 49

sidi has a reputation for having a narrow fit
so i first ordered a set of size 49 in their mega width
which is their wide fit designation
and i had to send them back because my feet were absolutely swimming in them
and the size 49 non mega i replaced them with were perfect
and i will be buying my third pair

I can't wear Sidi's. Just too narrow for me and I have regular width feet. I have never tried the wide but for the cost I can buy two pairs of the Shimano's that are comfortable so I just stick to those.

i would love to have that option
but i have never come across a pair of shimano shoes in a size larger than 48
although they are rumoured to exist
and the 48s are absolutely too small for me

sidis come at various price points
though
starting around 120 dollars
like my current ones the giau or something
although the construction is not as nice
and dont fit quite as sweetly
as 300 dollar dominators or the like

The Shimano M087 and now the M088 go up to 52 in regular and wide. My son bought a pair of the 50's today. That is one big shoe lol.

x2 on the Shimano. I wear a size 15 4d regular shoe and I just got a pair of M087 in 52 from Nashbar and they fit fine.

If you opt for platforms, check out wellgo MG1s. Im a 13 4e and they are great!
