Biking or Kayaking?
One friend invited me biking and another friend invited me kayaking at the same time. Which invitation should I accept?

Whichever one sounds like more fun to you?

If you've never been in a kayak, do try it. Otherwise what ever you enjoy more is the way to go.

Cycle over to the river and go kayaking. How is that hard? I did that all last week - ride 20 miles, then go ocean kayaking. It's not vacation if you're not working.

For me it would definitely be kayaking. I don't have a kayak, but I want a kayak. I have a bike and try to ride every day but it seems lately rain or other obligations are preventing that. Thus, anyone asks me to go kayaking, I'd be immediately on it.
Vacation in 2 weeks. I plan to roam around hitting some of the trails further away, but I want to get the kids in a kayak at least once during that week with a rental at the lake. In fact, talking about that through text with my wife as I type this.
Kayaking was my first thought of exercise but with a lot more expense to start out, thus I dusted off the old Walmart bike last year and tried out biking. $600 for my new bike vs. $600 each plus the needed accessories to outfit myself and 2 kids with kayaks because they would want to do it also was a lot cheaper.

You can't drown on a bike, nor can you get run over by a car in a kayak.

We had a great rain last night and the rivers are up so I am picking kayaking. I will just have to ride extra long tomorrow.
I have a friend that lives right next to river. What he does sometimes is drive up to the put-in, kayaks down stream to his house then rides his bike up to get his car. The best of both worlds.

My friend and I went down the river in a canoe with our bikes packed in, then when we got out, rode our bikes back to the car. Real nice trip.
Not sure if you can do the same with a kayak or if you could, if everyone has a bike and kayak.

If you opt for the boat just make sure you have a big enough kayak. My last time out I was in my 5'6 father-in-law's boat and the stern deck was almost awash and there wasn't enough vertical space under the fore deck for my legs to get comfortable. I'm think something a foot or two longer with more interior height would work.
If you stick with a bike, wheels are critical, I'm only 230lbs. and I still trashed the cheap A-class rear wheel on my first road bike.

I've seen someone towing with that set up here in Portland, I can see it being nice way to go in say the San Juan islands but not so much around town haha.

I ended up going kayaking from Leechburg PA to Freeport PA on the Kiskminetas and Allegheny rivers. It was a great trip. Saw several red-tail and turkey vultures and one bald eagle. Tomorow is a long (40+ miles) bike ride.

Another western PA guy. We should start a thread in the regional section of the forums. I might do that tomorrow when I geton with a computer rather than the tablet.

Message received! I think tomorrow I'll be on the Ghost Town Trail and the West Penn Trail, but I'll definitely need to check out the Butler-Freeport trail sometime when I'm heading into Pgh. I'll shoot you an email. ~Drew
