1st half century completed!!

Major milestone completed today. After upgrading my bike in early summer and riding a fair amount this summer, I accomplished my first half century today. It was a 50 mile charity ride to raise money for cancer research.

Didn't set any speed records (~12 the first half, ~10 the 2nd half) and cursed some of the hills but proud to say I completed the ride.

Thank so much to the experts on this board who have provided such great advice from bike shopping to training and beyond. I've also appreciated the reports from other newbies on accomplishments this summer.

Looking forward to continue building my biking capability - building speed and endurance so I can keep up with my friends and enjoy the experience more!

Thanks again!!

Great job. It's not necessarily about the time but finishing. Next time you will know what to expect and can adjust speed a little. The second century I rode after many years break I went out slow for the first 25 then increased as the day went on. I finished still feeling good. I should have gone out a little quicker but didn't want to over do it.

Well done. Now that you've done it once, you'll find that it's much easier to do again. Next up - metric century!

Congrats on the milestone! I recall my first 50miler, I also rode solo, and completed within 4 hours. Funny thing my recent 62 mile ride (a metric century) was completed in the same time so keep riding and your first metric will be a piece of cake!

My first 50 mile ride was around the Indianapolis motor speedway at the Toud De Cure this year. I am entered in the Dam to Dam ride next month and it will be my first metric century ride.

Lots of big rides are coming for you in the future. Have fun!
