Cars camping in the bike lane when traffic backed up/slow

Nope. Well, except maybe the example of the guy who didn't use his blinker. :-)
Longer term though the road engineering in the video is the direction that I think we need to be going. You don't see cars and trucks pulling across bikeways that have parked cars in the way like the guy did the painted bike lane. Yep, even the Dutch have found that painted bike lanes don't provide much protection.

Part of the solution for deliver vehicles might be a local code change. Local governments could require all businesses to have parking spaces designated for delivery vehicles only and issue parking tickets for anyone else using them.

Most places do have loading zones, but half the time some car parked in it and enforcement is sporadic. The main problem is the small neighborhood small business like the local dry cleaner, corner deli, or market, the businesses that best serve those who walk or cycle rather than drive, in locations where real estate is a premium that no one is willing to sacrifice for occasional use..

Part of the solution might be to just let the delivery guy who was parked there for probably 2 minutes do his thing while you proceed to merge and go around. Like any other vehicle would - given an obstruction. It's not our job to police the city streets.

I understand the frustration that comes with finding an obstacle in my path when I've invested a lot of huffing and puffing to achieve the exhilarating speed of 16 mph, but come on, people, can we not distinguish between a parked car and a delivery truck driver who's doing his job, making a delivery?
I like bike paths in as much as they emphasize the bicycle's right to some portion of the roadway, but we all must realize that sometimes bikes must share the road, and sometimes other vehicles must share the bike path.

I think the problem with delivery trucks is that we have developed the notion that every road has to be a freeway. We build roads for people, and lots of people are dependant on delivery trucks.

I have had people scold me for "parking" in front of their business, parking spot, driveway, ect. .............but it suddenly becomes ok when they find out I'm there for them. In this day and age of point and click shopping with free shipping, people won't even know their purchase will come by LTL trucking because of its size, weight, or volume.
