Anyone else have trouble with glasses?
I've tried several pairs of sunglasses with no success.
Even the slightest pressure on my temples results in severe headaches, i think maybe from reduced blood flow from the vein just aft of the temple. It's a really sharp pain. Anyone else have trouble with this? Warm days are coming soon and hitting grasshoppers and other ufo's at 20+ mph with your eyeball kinda hurts :) Certain areas are worse than others, my strategy so far has been to lower my head as much as possible and hopefully the leading edge of my hat deflects most of them. |
Hm...I've used Bolle Safety Glasses before which are pretty cheap. I know a fellow commuter that uses Uvex Blaze glasses ($40). The safety glasses worked just fine and were pretty darn scratch resistant.

I generally just go to a home improvement store and buy safety sunglasses. 3M makes a few, the one I bought this spring has pretty wide temple pieces on them that might distribute the pressure.
Here it is, the 3M "flat temple" glasses: Shop 3M Safety Eyewear Blck/Grey/Sr at Lowes.com For riding I want something rated for impact, not just sunglasses, and as a bonus these are $10. |

…my system with safety goggles with rigid earpieces...unlike goggles with elastic headbands, like ski goggles, still allow me to use my eyeglass mounted Take-a-Look mirrors, which IMO are in the most effective position for rearward viewing, FWIW. |

I use dollar safety glasses and inexpensive Target wayfarer knock offs. I used to have some problems with pinching but lately I do not. I used to have to angle the glasses down so that they didn't rest right over my ear. This seemed to have some sort of effect on circulation or nerves or something which made my jaw and head ache.

By any chance are you putting the glasses on before you put your helmet on? (the helmet will compress them into your temples) You want to put your helmet on first and then put the glasses on outside the helmet straps.

Aviation glasses hook behind your ears with not much tension around your temples.

Glasses over your helmet strap. I have a pair of Bolé glasses i like to use. They weren't cheap but I have also had them for 8 years and they,are polarized

After quite a few pair i've come up with some that work great.
I dug into my range bag and tried out my shooting glasses made by Winchester (maybe $10 pair). They have enough curvature in the frame that there is zero pressure along my face between eye & ear. In fact, they deflected a huge insect this very morning, i had to smile knowing how much that would have hurt without the glasses :) Mine are just like this but clear. Note that Winchester makes a pair that have telescoping temples, these don't, they're rigid and wrap around your face without touching. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=448332 |
I get pain in my temples from sunglasses stems, but only after a few hours of wearing them. Usually I can get away with shifting them up away from my ears for a while and then back down.
Maybe your glasses are just too small, so they are stretched out when you wear them, and thus push back with their own pressure. Next time I need sunglasses, I'm going to try out something cheap ($10-15) from the Walmart fishing department. Last time I was there (I don't fish, but it's adjacent to the bike section in my local walmart) the glasses looked pretty good for the price. I can't imagine paying the price of Oakleys or the like. |
[MENTION=252435]RubeRad[/MENTION], @ I think around 80 bucks, my sunglasses have lasted 8 years, so that is $10 a year. I used to get cheap sunglasses but got tired of breaking them. I found that if I had somethinf nice I would take care of it. YMMV.

Here's a selection of glasses that may appeal to some of you. I picked mine out at a flea market for 2 bucks. Yellow tinted. Great for riding at night.
