I use my rougher work pants for bike commuting
I've been reading everyone's advice on here regarding commuting-specific clothes. I wanted to share my plan with you.
Basically, I own more than a dozen work slacks. They range in condition from new to rough. The rough ones look a little faded, and some have a lot of wear at the bottom of the pant legs where the pants had rubbed against the shoes or floor.
I have been wearing these rougher pants for my bike commute to work, 9 miles each way. I figure that these pants are at the end of their useful life anyway, so I don't feel bad about adding more wear and tear to them or getting chain oil on them or whatever.
I save the nicer and newer slacks for days that I drive the car.

A good example of a dwindling commodity. Common sense. Thanks for using some.

I thought that I would just throw this idea out there since I have seen folks online complaining about their pants getting worn out from commuting.
The ones that I use to commue with are at the very edge of being too rough for an office environment anyway. But using these pants specifically on biking days does save me from changing clothes at work or messing up nicer pants.

Are you saying you bike commute only once in a while, and you choose rougher pants for those days? Otherwise, why have newer pants?
I would rather wear shorts and change at work, unless somehow you have some kind of magic pants that have the required flexibility to not grab at the knee or bunch around the waist while cycling.
But of course, whatever is working for you, works for you -- keep it up!

Someone suggested work pants like Dickies on another thread.
I haven't tried that yet but it sounded like a pretty good idea...

I've been riding in 1-2 times a week on the bike. I wear my rougher pants on these days. Nicer pants the rest of the week.

"slacks" are generally not thick cotton.
