Bicycle clothing choices

Hi i cant wear the lycra close fitting stuff and barely am able to wear the waterproofed clothing but am looking at this Fashion Long Windproof Jacket Rain Coat Waterproof Coat Jersey MEN Womens Girl | eBay ebay item. Do you think it is really waterproof? Being so cheap i mean. Plus would the water go through the seams? I made the mistake of getting a jacket a year ago from the UK and i am from Australia. It was ok in pretty heavy rain except through the seams. I understand the expensive brands will do the job but being on a pension i have to look at other things. I just cant afford $100 AUD for a pair of pants or a jacket. I know u get what u pay for but has anyone bought this sort of item and what have u to report?

My guess is that you will end up disappointed by this product. When it comes to water resistant clothing, you really do have to pay to play. You might check discount sites like sierratradingpost.com or nashbar.com before buying blind on ebay. At least then you have a return policy and don't have to play the silly ebay games for trying to hold a seller responsible for selling crap.

I once tried wearing my paddle jacket while bicycling. Very waterproof... and a very bad idea.

One of the key things that you need on the bicycle is good air circulation, otherwise you get more wet from the inside than the outside.

One can never tell, but that see-through material just doesn't look very durable, although it may be very water proof. Perhaps one-time-use?

Well, if you look closely at these posts on e-bay, you can usually track where it's from. It seems it's a legit WOLFBIKE product. So I would give it a thumbs up there. however, it looks too plasticky. Not very breathable. You might get soaked from sweat rather than rain with this. I would keep looking.

I got this. It is well reviewed and well priced with the clearance color. Free shipping and mine arrived very quickly. Looks well made! Has a few reflective details and the bright color is perfect for visibility.

OK thanks. I am often not aware of the good brands so this is valuable information

Oh thanks no not very affordable on the pension and i am too far away...they would charge more than the garment to get it here :0)

^ global shipping is free right now at Otto if it is in budget. I live in the U.S. ;)

rumrunn6 05-01-15 07:51 AM

that item looks clingy and uncomfortable

fietsbob 05-01-15 08:04 AM

sewing makes holes (Duh) so water leaks through, enter the Seam sealant (you apply) or factory installed seam taping.

Ah thats a great deal but not cheap enough for me. The garment itself i mean...ah well. Spending all what little i have on dental treatment that are way overdue :0)

Always wondered about that. I sew so i know but where do u get the stuff to seal?

fietsbob 05-01-15 10:34 AM

'seam sealant' google it. What's the Oz equivalent of MEC or REI? try there.

Its a CDN & US Outdoor Co Op thing .. None down Under?

If I was on a budget I would look at places like Goodwill and see what you can dig up. You can modify specific garments to make them more cycling friendly. I don't think I would buy something online, sight unseen and hope for the best even if it has free shipping. Sending things back is a pain.

Good luck with your search.

Also, look for a waterproof anorak. I got one from a department store on sale. They come in lengths short and long. Mine works really well, it doesn't have a hood, but I have a rain hat, and I just need to put the vollar in the right place. It is a little hot though, but here rainy days tend to be pretty warm when you are exerting yourself. Waterproof stuff isnt all that cooling, that's for sure.

These work well on a bike! The usually have a bungee to adjust fit up or down and look great on the street.

I can't believe it! ASOS has a few, but these jackets usually come out in the fall for us, and we are headed into Summer. You guys should be getting them though now though! They sell roughly fall, winter and spring here in the Bay Area. And I think your weather is pretty similar to mine!

Search: anorak - Page 1 of 1 | ASOS
