Advice for a new commuter... Schindelhauer?

Hi there, newby here seeking advice.

I’ve been commuting to work for a while on an off-the-shelf Trek Lync 5. Not a long commute, like 8 miles each way, so more decent enough bike for that purpose, but I’ve been thinking about getting something nicer for a while. Ideally I’d like something versatile enough that I can also use to go with the kids for a ride on the weekends, etc.

I am pretty sure I want to do a gear hub, other than that, after much research, and even when it's not exactly what I set out for, I found this Schindelhauer Ludwig that I am liking a lot: Ludwig XIV | Schindelhauer Bikes. They do have a proper commuter model (the Friedrich) but something on this one calls me more.

My fear is if it is going to bee too stiff maybe being all aluminum?. Anyone has experience with this brand?

Suggestions?

Thanks

Are you where they have a Dealer? It's a German Company.

You make an aluminum structure last longer by Not Flexing It.. Its just how the material is applied .

In the US the Bikes come Primarily across the Pacific to west Coast Ports .

No, I'd have to buy without trying it first.

That's a sweet bike. Aluminum wouldn't bother me in the least. Hope you have a secure lockup or can bring it in your office.

I can bring it in, wouldn't consider it otherwise!

The harshness of aluminum really depends on the geometry. Personally I'd not buy an aluminum bike without a lot of test riding. You could well be quite happy with it though.
