Construction on my commute!
For the last week my commute has been pure hell. I commute 5 miles one way and 2 miles of my commute are now under construction. They spent part of last week and all this week grinding the road from shoulder to shoulder..............
http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/...psq4icvt8j.jpg It's so horribly bumpy that it hurts to ride, but I stuck with it, really homed my skills on paying attention and making proper decisions. It's been a challenge, but it's all going to pay off when it's done. I swapped my road tires for some knobby tires and it helped a lot and my Huffy has not had any issues with the washboard road. I am glad I built my commuter the way I did. They started paving today so next week will be another interesting one. Be safe out there everyone! |
Yeah, I hear ya. "Rough Grooved Surface" is horrible to ride on, I've done many a mile on the stuff. Swapping your tires was a good move, as is running a lower PSI.
The good news is once the work is done the road will be way smoother than before! |
My SS mountain bike with 2 inch tires can easily handle the worst roads and potholes.. My FG bike with skinny tires is a bit more of a challenge on very rough roads and I need to use more caution.

Half last year my direct shortest route commute was under construction and closed. Added two miles to my ride from 11 to 13 miles. So frustrating. If I worked late, sometimes I could sneak through after the workers went home. Cops harassed me once when they saw me.

I did not get any pics, but they finally finished paving the scratch coat on the route! I had no issues with the construction traffic and the road is finally smooth! No more rough road riding!
Only issue I did have was cleaning the asphalt off my bike ;) |

Grooved/ground road and chipseal, my two least favorite surfaces.
A few years back the county chipsealed EVERY ROAD that is on any of my routes. Lovely. Even after a few years they're still very rough and noisy. The first year it's like riding over daggers. I keep imagining falling on that 0000000 sandpaper. |
