Craiglist First Bike Help

I'm browsing CL for my first bike. Want to commute to work. 10-12 mile. Really want a single gear for simplicity and the workout. This here a worthwhile one?

Looks good for your needs.

Go test ride it.

I'm gonna go check it out tommorow. I'm 5'9" with 30" inseam is this a little big for me or should I try and find something smaller? I'm in debate of keeping on looking on CL or get one from bikes direct. The one I want from BD is only on preorder to ship the first weeks of July. Hybrid with disk brake.

Bicycle fit is the most important issue for you right now. That makes BD idea, less than ideal.

Ride the craigslist bicycle and if it fits and is in good condition, it would make a good fist bicycle if your riding is mostly flat.

Use a fit calculator to get in the ballpark.

Get a helper to take the measurements, take them twice and average them for best results.

It's not a replacement for a fitting, but it will get you close enough to enjoy your first bike.

I looked up the bike and I'm not a fan. Seems like a high price for a stripped-down bike with no name-brand components and no butted tubes and chromoly only for the main triangle. But that also describes the frame of my Super Sport and it rides great, so maybe I should be gentler. It looks cool in that stormtrooper way.

Whether it suits you commute or fits you, of course we cannot say, we'd just be stating our own preferences on the former and guessing on the latter.

Thanks guys. Ended up going to a lbs asked what would be a good fit and found a 2008 specialized allez double 54cm on Craigslist. Got a few big hills on my commute so the gears was a better option. Got it last week and rode about 4 times this week to work 10.5 miles. Love it such a great time.

Glad to hear it. You did well.
