Child AND dog compatible trailer?

I'm getting a dog soon and need a dog trailer. I've never shopped for a trailer before and would appreciate some recommendations. I'm likely to have children in the next few years as well. Given the expense of trailers, it'd be great if I could pick up a child trailer that is dog compatible, some kind of removable seat setup. I have zero experience with trailers. Does what I'm picturing exist, or are dog and child trailers fundamentally different in layout?

If the above is not possible, please recommend a dog trailer. Thanks for your time.

I use the burley bee for our dog (75 lbs), but I remember having to modify it to add room for him. It was a while ago, and I forget exactly what I did...but it involved unscrewing the base and moving bits backwards. My guess would be a similar mod, and then adding something like a kid's booster seat from a restaurant when the kids go in.

If it's a smaller dog I don't think any mod would have been needed.

I suppose my setup could still accommodate kids since I left the original harness and back wall in place. I cut a piece of aluminum to fit the floor frame which gave my dog a more stable surface to lay on. Installed some tie down points because he likes to chase squirrels. We put the bed in there so it's more comfortable, would probably do the same if I were hauling kids. The floor also makes it convenient for hauling groceries and such.

Unless your dog is huge, just put the dog in the kid trailer.

I never understood the reason for pet-specific bike trailers.

Looks really similar to our Burley trailer I converted into a grocery hauler once our kids had outgrown it. I pulled out all the seating/straps and cut to size piece of 1/4" plywood created a strong and stable floor. Simple but very effective.

I did the same with mine but can still convert back and forth between kid hauler mode and grocery getter mode, using a big storage box attached to plywood, and then using hitch pins and cotter pins to hold the plywood to the trailer while it's folded flat.

When my son outgrows the trailer I plan on replacing the plywood with a couple of aluminum angles to support the box, which should make it several pounds lighter.

Our dog is huge. He fit in this trailer for a couple months, however:
