Custom Civia Commuter Build

Here is a build that I'm currently in the middle of : Civia Hyland Drop Bar

I'll post a full build list here later.

I took apart the Avid BB7 calipers and painted them black.

Also, the wheels are still being built and I'll be installing bar tape and some other goodies in the next couple of weeks, I'll update the thread as the build gets finished up.

The cabling options on the frame are great, fully housed cabling everywhere. The caveat is that I had to rig a cable stop for the front dérailleur (there isn't one on the frame), so I'm looking into a better solution for this.

I rode it for the first time today (10 miles/18km), I'm going to do a few things to make the stance a little more upright and the derailleurs still need some cable adjustment.

Notice I use a torque wrench...yes, I know I need a proper bike stand...

More pics, oh yeah, the cassette is 11 speed, so I had to remove one cog from the Shimano 105 cassette until wheels are finished...

mmmmm looks delicious :P I need to keep that in mind when I start my commuter bike build. Can it take fenders also?

Odd that you had to paint your calipers. I just bought a BB7 a couple weeks ago and it was already black.

Thanks!

I purchased this particular BB7 road set a few years ago, and back then the road only came in silver I think, and the MTB version's were black. Is this one in the picture a road? I know they recently came out with some different versions of the BB7, with black for road bikes.

If you decide to go the Shimano road 11 speed route, be careful, they changed the freehub body width. This has caused some problems with my wheel build, specifically I cannot use an XT hub with an 11 speed road cassette like I originally wanted, and my rear axle spacing is 135mm OLD. I wanted centerlock discs and a 36H hub with the 135mm OLD that can accommodate the new 11 speed cassettes.

Shimano does make a 135mm centerlock rear hub (for cyclocross, the CX75 series), but it only comes in 28H.

(Un)fortunately I was only able to find one hub that is 36h, centerlock, and 11 speed compatible, the White Industries CLD (which costs a lot). I had to go this route because I had already purchased everything else, and it was cheaper and less time consuming to just buy the expensive hub instead of returning all the 11 speed stuff and redesigning the bike.

The pic is the MTB version.

Thanks for the tips. I won't be building a bike anytime soon, really, just keeping stuff in my mind for when I do. They might be up to 15sp cassettes by the time I'm able to build up a custom bike haha.
