Today it was a sleeping bag, nicely packed into it's carry bag.
I just left it where I found it.

I've seen...
Deer, lots of deer the last couple of days. Racoons, mice, opossums, birds (mourning doves and robins).
When you hit the road at ten to five in the morning that happens.

Welcome to the forums! Check out the sticky thread to share your daily commute.
I see deer regularly as well, though not as early as you. There aren't any opossums in this areas. But I regularly see eagle, ravens, crows, heron, seals, river otters, a selection of many other foul, raccoons, and the occasional mink
Also we are a curious bunch and enjoy knowing where everyone is from, can you add you location to your info?

Crows. Two of them on the highway, one next to the left lane, the other next to the right lane, about 1/4 mile apart. I rarely see crows, as they're generally smarter than that. Maybe they were young?

Found this. Okay, bad iPad pic; it's a 3-point buck, and behind the bush on the left is his lighter-colored brother.

Found on A dead end road with no house close by.Most just drive on this road.
So maybe someone threw it out the car window.Easy return.
Also found some cheap clear eye protection.

I found Mario on my ride in this morning. Picked it up and figure I'll give it to the kids.

Yesterday I stopped my commute to pull semi tire pieces off the shoulder, and one big piece that was right on the shoulder and lane. To everyone who rides or drives the Highway 101 safety corridor, you're welcome. You're also welcome for the tree branches, weird bits of metal mesh, squashed plastic watering can, large hunks of bark, and other random debris that decorates that area that you didn't have to ride around/over. Man, I can hardly wait for the Bay Trail to be finished.

Here are some of my latest road finds (not all from the same spot). Ok, a little beat up.
MiscRoadFinds.jpg
Bonus points to the roadies that recognize the part to the right (two views of the same part)
It is beyond me how a person could be riding along and have any of these pieces just fall out of their bike and not notice it.

The brake shoes, yeah. Had to rebuild one Monday for a customer, and I have no idea how you'd lose those without actually dismantling the hub. (Or having it dismantle itself, but then you'd likely have found more parts.)
There's a guy along the MUP who's put out assorted parts of a top-load washing machine weekly for the last month or so, (in that section, the path is sidewalk, so the "out" location for trash is the 2-3' wide strip between the path and curb) and it's sort of amusing to try to guess what will be out next. Earlier this evening it was finally the drum itself. Not sure why, since putting the whole thing out with "FREE SCRAP OR PARTS" Sharpied on it would have it picked up before the trash truck runs.

This has been my "Good Samaritan" year for roadside finds.
ONE:

ONE:
First, this spring I found a really nice Felt Carbon Fiber road bike laying beside the road. Apparently it had been there for at least an hour, probably overnight as it had some mud on it and a few fresh sprinkles. I yelled and nobody answered.
So, about a mile from home, I was walking my bike and the Felt home, when a neighbor pulled out of the driveway in her SUV, looked at me funny, and said it was her bike. She seemed to fit on it. We rode back to where I picked it up. Then left it with her. There appeared to be another road bike in the garage, so I'm inclined to believe her.
I had been contemplating how to place a "Found" ad on Craigslist without giving too much away. And, also calling two local PDs and the Sheriff's office. At least finding the neighbor was easier.
That reminds me, I saw another neighbor riding a nice road bike with two young kids near there... I've been meaning to ask if he was the one, and ask if he wished to borrow a Fuji Ace 24 which needs to be passed on.

About a month ago, I decided to stop buy the local LBS to pick up some rim tape for Mom's bike. But, I decided to try a different store than usual which included an extra hill climb. So, at the base of the hill, I saw a woman and a kid around 10 or so. She yelled across a 4-lane road asking if I had seen something, and seemed to indicate a square, and I finally heard the word envelope. I was thinking a large manila envelope. I replied NO. But, while I do glance at some roadside debris, I wasn't quite sure if I would have noticed an envelope among other roadside trash. Nonetheless, I kept my eyes open for large envelope shaped objects as I headed up the hill. And, about 1/2 mile up the hill, I found a small white sealed envelope with a name scrawled on it and no stamp. Somehow I knew that was the one. So, I turned around and headed back down the hill. She wasn't where I saw her earlier, but I did find that she had crossed the road (and I had crossed the road, again on opposite sides). Anyway, I whistled, and she yelled, and I made out the word KIETH. Which turned out to resemble the nearly indecipherable scribble on the envelope, so I gave her a
, and made may way back across the road. It turns out the envelope was full of cash. She offered me $20 out of it (which I didn't take), but obviously enough to be out searching for it, and the $20 was just a fraction of it.
At least with that one, I'd have ignored it if I hadn't been specifically looking for it. But, she was looking quite far from where it actually was found.
THREE (Today):
At least with that one, I'd have ignored it if I hadn't been specifically looking for it. But, she was looking quite far from where it actually was found.
Out again today. On my way back home, I saw a really nice pocket knife on the side of the road, a yard or so past a driveway, but on the road shoulder. Not battered like many of them. A genuine Leatherman Skeletool. I stood and thought about it for a moment. Then put it in the pocket and headed on. Then 1/4 mile away, I decided to turn around and knock on the door of the house it was in front of. First a woman answered, the said she'd ask her BF/Husband, and he came out and said he had been working on removing some roadkill from in front of the house. He offered me a bottle of wine or beer (I don't drink). Well, anyway, he was quite happy to get his knife back.
So... just my luck, all the really good finds... and I found the owners.

Guessing the bushing goes with the RD pulley. Likely not a case of not noticing there, but not being able to find it, or not having the tool along to put it back anyway. Depending on which pulley it was, it might be possible to get going again in the big cogs, and get home for repairs, or maybe they just called for a ride and didn't bother to search for parts that weren't likely to be functional anymore anyway.

I think I had a QR nut fall off of a wheel I was transporting once. Now I'm careful to screw everything down tightly.
But, it does make for a good story that someone lost a internal hub part just riding along
