A Christmas tree, covering half the bike path. I don't know if left there deliberately or if it just rolled out of someone's truck bed, but it would have been hard to land the way it did accidentally. Still had the fake icicles on it.

Best thing so far -- $500 cash. Second best thing, $100 cash. But I've also found things that destroyed my wheels and led to a 10 mile walk.

I found $150 once, and was so excited about finding it I think I spent it 2 - 3 times.

Here's this week. I didn't take a pic of the decomposing raccoon. You're welcome.

Just before Christmas, I found a ziplock bag of homemade cookies.

Yes, I know what they say about other people's homemade food, but what can I say, I have a sweet tooth, and they were good.

I find so much weird stuff I started to instagram it. I mean, a bowling ball, is that weird?
I bike commute along a bike trail and some streets in Antioch, a town in the Delta region on the outskirts of the SF Bay Area. With the ever increasing population of homeless there's a lot of oddness.

Here's a link to my collection that just keeps growing.

Last night on my commute home I rode by a house with a huge pile of bulky trash in front. Including what looked like a 1970s or 80s (??) Italian Basso road bike which needed a lot of TLC. Since I rode my bike I couldn't haul it home. Plus I don't have the time or place to fix it up so I posted it in my local bicycle FB group. Someone from the group picked it up within the hour. At least it now has found a new home and might get restored.
In addition the homeowner also threw out some homebrew stuff. Airlocks, carboy caps and hoses. That stuff I packed in my panniers.

Found a very nice tool box filled with a socket set and wrenches. Too heavy to carrey with out a rack so I moved it to the more visable edge of the shoulder and left it there. Maybe whom ever lost will come back for it,or someone who needs it more than I.

I have found six smart phones (all having shattered screens), an iPad and a digital camera. I have returned all but the iPad to their original owners (the iPad was smashed and had no owner info on its sim-card).

One of the phones had a dude's pics of his junk. But it also had pictures of him in his work uniform. I printed a picture of his face, taped it to the phone and had had a coworker drop that one with the receptionist.

The camera belonged to the President and CEO of the Dallas Mavericks. Returning that one scored us some free tickets.

Last Thursday I found a big, silver wedding(?) ring. Not a Ring, as far as I can tell. I mean, I haven't put it on when anyone else was in the room, and I can't get anyone else to try it on. I placed a CL ad, with no responses so far. It's sitting on my desk, plain and unadorned, and not at all tempting. Nope, not me!

Money

I’ve found 5 $5 bills near my house one day when I was walking my bike home due to a flat tire. Brand new bills!

Cold hard cash! I have a way of sniffing out road side cash. My most recent score was $20. Plenty of singles, $10's and $20's over the years. I always pump them right back in the economy. Always on bike stuff.

U guise are lucky. I can't recall ever finding a bill, but I find solitary coins rather often.

Last week I found a bunch of citrus. There were a couple grapefruits next to the curb, at the bottom of a large, tree-covered slope up to the back of an apartment complex. Looking up I saw more scattered up the hill, as well as orange fruits as well (satsumas? minneolas? not sure). I climbed up, filling my hoodie pockets with the nicer pieces, and found at the top a big pile of fruit sitting at the base of the brick retaining wall. Somebody had dumped it all there, it must have been at least 20lb. By the look of it, it was recently off a tree, not washed&waxed for grocery sale. Maybe the complex has citrus trees that nobody was taking advantage of, so the gardeners gathered up all the ground fruit and dumped it over the fence?

I found a diamond a few months ago. The glint was so bright, I knew it wasn't a char of glass or the like. Retraced and found it. Its small and is in a jar on my desk at work. No idea what to do with it.

If you know a trustworthy jeweler, you can take it in to see if it's been laser etched with a serial number. Otherwise, sell it or mount it.

I find a lot of disturbingly important looking car parts, like lug nuts. Also Plenty of hand tools, like screw drivers (I won't pick those up, as I have visions of getting stabbed if I crash out).
I suppose my best find was a Park's bottom bracket tool. Not valuable or exciting, but oddly bike specific.
