I should, shouldn't I? The trick would be getting it home; can't carry it on my bike, but maybe the bus? Hmm.

Also, this morning I found an abandoned bike frame. I walked over to check it out, expecting a cheap Huffy, but it's a Specialized Rock Hopper! So tempted to rescue it.

Sadly, andycook and no motor? someone must have seen me take a pic on my way to lunch; it was gone when I got back. I may have seen someone driving away, so at least it went to a good home. Just hope it wasn't stolen.

AAAAAAAAHHH! Riding to work this morning I passed some glass. No biggie, there's always glass, but this was a Smirnoff Ice bottle with large, jagged, tire-hungry hunks of glass all over the road shoulder; including the base, sitting upright with a big pointy bit, just waiting. I had to stop and kick it all off the road. A moment later, a guy passed me like I was standing still; I quietly called, 'You're welcome,' to his rapidly retreating back.
This was after I moved some road cones that were busy not protecting a light rig. Now they are. I'm feeling all virtuous today. |
Thanks Korina for cleaning up the roads for us all!
I have been tempted to sweep some glass on section of my commute but i always forget to. I left early this morning and saw the sun rise. It was such a pretty view. I almost took a picture but didn't. |

On the US36 Bike Path this morning, just South of Table Mesa in Boulder. Yes, those are all unopened packages of ramen noodles. That was just the way I found it, (and left it).:foo: |
I would have picked them up. The salt -- er, flavor packets I would throw away, but the ramen blocks are good for Dragon Noodles.
Now if it was good ramen, I'd get excited! |
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2bf9c7702.jpeg Running along Hwy 17 I found a nice mashette with case. Almost brand new. Felt like such a bada** hauling it around with me all day! |
1 Attachment(s)
Here is the latest batch of road finds, mostly from my last trip to Portland, and Scappoose.
Attachment 609844 Turquoise embedded Lucky Horseshoe. I have to think it was like Bilbo's ring, and just needed to find a new owner. I'm still working to unlock it's secrets. :foo: Hard to imagine how one could lose a tubeless tire valve without noticing it ??? Likewise, the loss of a lower seat pivot should also been noticed by the rider ??? Lastly was a pair of magnets that found me... Ok, so I was walking at the time and thought I had picked up a rock with my shoe, when I found these snapped to my cycling cleat. |
Last night, I was playing with a new headlight, and that brought my attention to the ground greater than normal. I swung around to look at an object a second time. I found a Matchbox car, labeled '09 Corvette. Now I have to find a kid to give it to.

WTH? Ramen noodles again, but this time with wieners.:foo: Again on the US36 Bike Path, about 5 miles from the previous ramen noodle find. |
And salt? Like the weiners and ramen don't have enough already?

Smashed cell phone that won't go away
For the past 2 months I've been steering past a smashed cell phone between the traffic lane and the on ramp that has survived all kinds of storms and traffic. It's not a great find of any sorts but has become an icon on my route. Part of the case has wired earbuds attached to it that have disintegrated over time. Other than that it looks like it just landed! The kicker is that I've seen the street sweeper twice on my morning work commutes and this pile of garbage has survived since.
|
JRA this morning, heard a car tire skid, looked over into traffic and saw a water cooler, on the paint between the left and middle lanes. About 100yd up, a pickup truck stopped in the bike lane, and then his reverse lights came on...
|
3 in extension, a socket set but only picked up one, and flexible socket thing. sorry brain is tired.
|
I needed a pump for my new bike and yesterday I found a Lezyne Road Drive in the ditch.
|
Last week I found some deep skid marks and churned up grass and dirt. Nothing was burned, so it couldn't have been too bad.
|
A copperhead on the trail riding home last night. But decided not to pick it up... lol
|
This morning, a 9/16" combo wrench with a hinged racheting box end.
Last night, a pile of garbage bags and other trash (collected by a roadside cleanup crew and waiting for pickup?) including 3 bike frames, 3 26" wheels, etc; a Magna, a Northrock, and something else crappy. I grabbed off a bottle cage, a quick-release seatpost collar, and a seat+post. The Northrock has a triple crankset I wanted but couldn't remove because I didn't have the tools. I brought my 8mm wrench today in case it's still there and the crankset is self-removing; unfortunately my puller is loaned out. |

My theory is that these items are available free at the local homeless shelter, and they are being abandoned by some one whose eyes were bigger than he wanted to carry.

Monday morning it was a well-mangled raccoon. It was not sleeping, it was not pining for the fjords, it was an ex-raccoon. Blech.
|
This morning, a 6 and 8 mm open end wrench from Pittsburgh Tools. That's a Harbor Freight brand, I think, but still... useful.
