I've found at least half a dozen hats on the road. Usually baseball caps, but once a decent quality hiking/sun hat
|
This morning's find was a pacific tree frog. On its back and not moving (and minus its lower back leg), so presumably dead. Incompetent cat? The Arcata Marsh is a popular place for idiots to dump their cats; poor things don't know how to hunt anything more than catnip mice.

I think I'm going to find some rain on the ground for my ride home. Good thing I've got the hefty liner for the pannier.

I'M GONNA KILL YOU!!! I'M GONNA KILL YOU!!! I'M GONNA KILL YOU!!! She had a bike with her loaded up with what I'm guessing was all of her possessions. From a couple hundred feet away, I called the local PD, and loitered until they arrived. Apparently, she really didn't want people driving over her railroad tracks.:twitchy: |

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...fc733108e.jpeg What happened to this thing? It’s on a bike trail a mile from each trail head. It’s been methodically, completely destroyed. |
Temper tantrum?

I showed it to my wife like it was a big mystery, she just said, "Kids are stupid."

Used needles of late....

Best trail find ever; found a dad out with his two little kids, all on bikes. The tiny one was on a strider and balancing really well; he'll need pedals soon. I love striders; so so much better than the training wheels of my day.
|
Someone harvested the rear wheel assembly from the kiddie bike. The front tire is now off the rim. The frame, amazingly, is intact. It was too heavy to carry and detour out to a trash can while making it to work on time. Maybe after work...
Korina I saw a new hot take on balance bikes here recently, the idea that kids can learn to pedal earlier but shouldn't be taught because they have poor judgment. Ha! |
This morning, I found a brassiere on the MUP. I didn't pick it up :notamused:
|
darth_Lefty, good point, although I'd be more frightened of their lack of fine motor skills.
Unca_Sam, wrong size? :roflmao: |
I've been seeing a single black brassiere pad (I assume that's what it is) on the side of the road for the past few weeks.

Yes, yes it was. Not sure how it came to be broken, and I really don't want to know. |
Last week I found an electric mobility scooter on the bike path, about 50' away from a bus stop.
On the return trip 90 minutes later it was still there. |
Update, bra was gone (so sad ) but there was a pink 16" bike on the other side of the rails. I didn't grab that either.
|
Well pink might be nice, but a bra is custom-designed for the job, I doubt a bike would be nearly as comfortable

A small copperhead on the trail. Decided not to pick it up.
|
This morning, on the trail, I was passed by not one, but two female cyclists. I seldom run into another commuter at 6:30, much less two in a row; having three female cyclists within sight of each other (well, me, as they passed me like I was standing still) is rarer still. I may have been grinning like a loon for the next three miles. :)
Also, a small garter snake; it was squashed in the middle, and seeing it was all twisted up, it didn't die quickly. :( |
A couple of weeks ago I saw 2 other bike commuters on my way home. I rarely see one, let alone 2 and was so amazed I didn't bother to tell them that we were all signalling our right hand turns wrong according to some here.

I only have been riding a year or so, but I find a lot of stuff. A little wallet (woman's) with some ID and $240, a nice tactical switch blade, set of jumper cables, $3, a good hitch pin, a cement trowel, a pair of MTB elbow pads, a few other misc. tools. I was unable to contact the wallet owner directly so I mailed it to the address on the Id card and just hoped for the best. If I wanted to pick up gloves I'd have 100's, I see a ton of those. There is a segregated bike lane next to the freeway (which is also near a dump entrance). Odd (mostly light) stuff of no interest ends up there. It's kind of weird but not unusual to see kid’s graded homework, given greeting cards, bulk merchandising sale tags on that bike path in additon to the typical cooler lids, hats, barricade tape, traffic cones, rope and twine...
I guess I tend to ride head down quite a bit. |
i have seen many snakes 3-4 lately mostly black rat snakes but I did see one that was black and yellow. I did hang around to examine too closely.
|
Seen several items, but a Camelback water bottle has been the only thing worth picking up.

I found this the other day. I think it's part of a rather nice seat post. It's not something that can fall off your bike and you just keep riding. So I was puzzled, how it ended up on the road. |
