A squirrel and two raccoons all no longer able to run away, and THIS, which I could not fit in my pack. Wheels and suspension bits and trim and headlights are not unusual on this stretch but this seems pretty extravagant to abandon

This is difficult to see, but there are 2 sets of fire hoses running parallel to the fog line, extending all the way down to the jersey barrier in the distance. This is along US 36 and that overpass is Cherryvale. This is one of the areas where the Marshall Fire leaped over US 36 and continued into Louisville (on my left). I did not take the firehose home.

Last summer I found a dead Massasauga Rattlesnake on the side of the road. I have never seen one before, dead or alive.

I mis-read this over and over, trying to understand why the fire marshall would need to jump over a highway to get to Louisville- isn't there a more direct route? And why did he leave the hoses?

2 days ago I found a dead cow, badly bloated. This was in the area swept by the Marshall Fire, so I expect that was cause of death.

Reminds me of the opening scene of Mars Attacks (which I rewatched recently after decades -- very mediocre), involving a blazing herd of cattle is running down the road

Today:
- Nice ballpoint pen.
- Sealed can of Kroger-branded chicken soup.
- Apple AirPods case.:) But it was empty. :(

Now this is for real. I got home, started looking at the r-e-d-d-i-t Boulder forum, and saw this:

I must say, that username has me intrigued!

^^^ good luck. In all senses

I found a Hydro Flask or a reasonably good knockoff. The 4in dia quart kind. It had a nice blue fade paint job and a lot of macho stickers - OHV clubs and metal bands. Well loved and scuffed up. We have enough such things so I put it upright by the nearest sign post.

Found last week.
Couldn't figure out what it was until I did some googling:

Just got back from returning it to its owner.
False advertising; BiteShyNympho is a dude.:(
But I did get a reward.:thumb:

A few days ago I found a set of decent wireless headphones, JBL Everest 310ga. They were a little wet, but took them home and dried them out.
When they were dry I turned them on, still had power, connected then to the ipad and they work perfectly. This is definitely one of my better finds…..

A couple of weeks ago I found a tiny shard of rock, the exact shape and sharpness as glass. Naturally, I found it in my tire when repairing the flat. :(

rekmeyata 01-27-22 07:39 PM

I found a pair of polarized Ray Bans, I originally rode past them thinking they flew off and in the process are scratched to hell, but on my way back they were still there across the road, so curiosity set in and I went over and picked them up and what the heck? no scratches? So, I've been wearing them for about 3 months now.

I found this nice Park pedal wrench on an overpass near the Bay Bridge last weekend.

Weird, biggish tool to bring on your bike ride…biggish bike bag…

gaucho777 02-03-22 09:46 PM

^ bikenuke1, I don’t think it was dropped by someone on a typical bike ride. There are a lot of homeless bike thieves in that area. My guess is that it was inadvertently dropped cruising around the ‘hood. I was able to bring it home in my jersey pocket without much inconvenience.

billnuke1 02-04-22 11:00 AM

I was picturing where I ride and it didn’t make a whole lot of sense. Maybe some riders were spared the grief of losing their pedals because the thief dropped that tool!

Lots of dope, a couple guns, a toy dinosaur, an iPhone, a Saint Christopher's medal, and a Louis Vuitton gold ring.

Found a surfboard. It was in a board bag, but had been obviously run over by the cars behind the car it flew off of. I was able to salvage the leash and quad fin set. Board and bag were toast.

Well, today (storm Eunice) I did found half a tree on the ground ...

While riding, I have found: three smart phones - First one I was able to get into, find the phone number and dial it from my phone. Turns out it belonged to my neighbor, just three houses down the street. He set it up on top of his truck before he left for work and it had fallen off on the side of the road; the second phone I found over a year later was password protected and I couldn't get into it to try to contact the owner, so I turned it into the nearest sheriff's office. Third phone I found in about September/October, six or seven months ago. Not password protected, so I dialed a contact labelled: Sue - sister. Sure enough, it was the sister of the owner, who said he had already called her from his landline and was very upset that he had lost his cell phone while riding his motorcycle. She gave me his landline number and 20 minutes later we met up at the local crossroads and he got his phone back. He tried to offer me $10 "gas money" for my trouble and honesty, but of course I declined.

I've also found:
-- couple of screwdrivers (not very good ones)
-- a crescent wrench: good quality in its day, still works but has obviously seen better days and probably got run over a time or two
-- some scrap wood, some of which I brought home on my back rack - stakes and such, small 2x4s, etc. I use it to make small utility items, for carving/whittling and if all else fails, kindling
-- a ladies wallet: in good condition, but empty and wet
-- a DVD movie in plastic case: turns out it was XXX rated. I tossed it. I'm not into that sort of thing, and my wife probably wouldn't have cared for it, either.
-- four or five small coins: pennies, nickels, a dime laying in the road - still waiting for a quarter :)

Found a Matco open end box wrench in mint condition yesterday.
