Was Tuesday salmon day?
 

I usually don't see many other bicyclists when I'm out riding and was surprised to see so many salmon Tuesday. The first one I saw as I was exiting the parking lot for my condo. Fortunately he passed as I was pulling out and we avoided having to decide who'd have to change positions to avoid a collision. I took a 7 mile detour on my way home to go to the credit union and saw a couple out salmoning up a side street I'd gone by, and then a few minutes later I saw a little kid trying to get out of the street and up onto the sidewalk with Dad(?) and brother. That's a lot more people than I usually see bicycling, and most of them were salmon.

I almost never see anyone anywhere riding on my 31 miles round trip. But yesterday I saw one woman coming the other way near my office, and a guy a bit ahead of me just as I set off to go home. Pretty much everyone I see is riding on the correct side of the road.

But there was this one time where I was waiting at a major intersection to go straight. I saw a kid coming from the left on the wrong side of the road, heading east on the westbound side, cut through a gas station, then went out on the northbound street (my direction), went all the way up the center turn lane to a 3-way stop, and then turned RIGHT across 2 lanes of straight-thru traffic! :bang: That was awhile back, like last year I think. I saw him one other time while in my car, but haven't seen him since then.

At twilight on Tuesday, I encountered an unilluminated, nonretroreflective runner who had foresaken the nicely groomed decomposed granite path alongside the road in favor of jogging directly me in the road-debris-strewn bike lane.

I favor asphalt paving myself for running (when I used to run) and usually went in the street. But I was a barefoot runner and the street was always smoother.

I believe I'm the only one not salmoning in the Redneck Riviera... Bike lanes are just places for people to park their cages most of the time.

Funny, I thought that every day was salmon day.
