Quality waterproof casual shoes

It's come to my attention that many formerly high quality shoe brands have gone way downhill in the past few years. Rockport and Keen are two brands that offer waterproof casual shoes that were once high quality, but now are purposely designed to wear away quickly. To put it bluntly, they are now crap. If you don't believe me, read amazon reviews for any Rockports. Compare the overall rating to the "recent reviews."

Are there any casual waterproof shoes that are still high quality in the $100 range? Thanks.

Geox shoes are sleek, and claim to be completely water proof. I have a pair and while my feet get cold and feel damp, they are actually dry after wearing them in the rain.

Merrell has plenty of waterproof shoes that aren't too heavy. I prefer shoe covers over my light weight running shoes though.

I tend to wear the outsole of my shoes in no time (in fact before anything else has time to wear) and the outsole of my merrel moab is just fantastic. And even with the mesh those are completely waterproof. Too sporty for office though. Only one brand lasted me longer than those vibram shoes (10 years with barely any wear on them vs 1 year for my other shoes) but it was a long time ago :)

Thanks everyone. I've never owned a pair of Merrell's. I think I'm going to get them a try.

If you don't mind shoes that look more like sport than casual dress, I really like Montrail. My low top hikers are 10 years old now, and just beginning to need new soles (although I'm just going to use Shoe Goo to patch them). The Gore Tex waterproof liner worked for several years, although the shoes leak now - might be because my cat uses them for a scratching post.

I liked this pair well enough to consider buying another pair of Montrails, rather than cycling oriented walking shoes.

That Merrell moccasin looks good. I have a Keen shoe like that, but I think it was around $55. I don't expect them to last all that long, but they're still going after two years. I'm satisfied enough, but next time, I'll consider Merrell.

Merrell is a brand I have stopped buying in the last couple of years because I feel the quality has diminished. I like the idea of the gore tex layer that makes the shoes waterproof but the last two pairs I bought were falling apart inside way too quickly so I stopped purchasing them.

I've been quite happy with Loake.

My winter boots cost twice that.

I have Bestard mountain boots from Spain with Gore Tex. They're great for all but the snow days.

Then I break out my Meindl sheepskin-lined winter ice screw boots also lined with Gore Tex from Germany that are great for snow and slippery surfaces.

I don't regret spending the cash for high quality boots.

Strange i have no problem with mine even after many years, still waterproof. I must have been lucky. Or maybe you didn't get the right one.
This one gets relatively good reviews (not sure it is the one i have as they all look the same to me :lol:)

If the last time you bought a pair of Merrells was "many years" ago, then you wouldn't know if Merrells produced within the last couple years are good quality, now would you?

You're right i only know about the one i currently have. That's a good point :). I can also compare with my other shoes that aren't from merrell.
