planing to check them during the off or may it's a common issue with this bike.

That's what I thought but as you can see from this thread it turned out to be the freewheel. No doubt it's common on this bike, cheap freewheel.

Take AlmostTrick's suggestion and flip it to fixed and the click likely goes away. It has the bonus that if you happen to like fixed gear better you can just leave it that way, call it "repaired" and forget about it.

I got one about a month ago. Except for the clicking noise, no complaints.
I changed the bars to bullhorns new ANIMAL - Hamilton pedals, 2 cages and the seat.
I do all city riding and love it.
Cant complain for what i paid for it. Next, i will replace tires when they die.
I would post a pic but not enough posts
Im gonna start using mine for the food app deliveries in NYC next week.

I've put the stock tires back on mine, might as well get some use out of them. I want to put 28's on there, maybe 32's if I can find some fast rolling but cheap ones. But the stock tires show no signs of wearing out yet (sigh) it could take years at this rate.

JIMBETHYNAME 08-10-17 12:52 PM

Definatly needs 28s

Holy Cow! The 2018 Streetfighter Sport is out - still $229, but with 7 speed Shimano RD-A050.

Edit: and the single speed is $169.

Or even more on target, the SST single speed is $169 Save Up to 60% Off Fixie Road Bikes | Track Bikes | Fixed Gear | Single Speed Bicycles | Dawes SST singlespeed bicycles | Save up to 60% off list prices

That's pretty much the same price as my single speed (£169 - 19% VAT = £140 or $181) including free shipping.

The big advantage to the Mango bike is that they're ready to upgrade to an IGH with all of the cable points in place.

Much, much better than the Bikesdirect option ... also Mango-bikes and had-assembled and test ridden before being shipped out.

I rejected those because of the hi-ten steel frame instead of 4130, and not wild about some of the components, and $435 with shipping for most of them. But I'm sure those are also good.

Seems that mangobikes is now operating on both ends of the spectrum:

£949 - 19% VAT = £790 ($1020)

Interesting decisions by the company

Not convinced that bikesdirect is really 4130/25Cr4Mo.

Also, why 435 shipped? Should be under 200 USD to all of Europe.

Your link says $209 for the white one, plus $135 shipping. All of the others are $331 base price plus shipping. That's a pretty good price for the white one, but still twice as much total as the BD special.

Must be based on where you're located ... £199 shipped to my door here in the UK (and to the rest of the EU). £169-20% tax = about 180 USD total for a new ride.

Once mine gets stolen.

For that you should get one now as a spare. Bikes Direct is continental US only for free shipping.

I'm a little tight on bike storage space at the new place ... so I'd go with one of these if I needed to replace it:

This is the only review I need ...

"Für den Preis in Ordnung"

For the price, all is in order/normal/as expected. Good German review sealed it for me.

Hmm, not an encouraging thing to say on an objective American review of another bike.

acidfast7 08-15-17 02:20 AM

German gf says that I should get another 20 years or so out of Marley (my bike) and that we should mount a Römer Jockey when that option is necessary, so no upgrades for me apparently :)

Better get that brake fixed then, surely that's a duck needing to get lined up before the child seat.

Nah, don't want to spend the cash until it's necessary. Also, I need to run the rear pads through after the fronts wear out before upgrading the entire system.

At that price, maybe I'll just go with the front brake. That's all that one really needs.

A good time to reprise the cost and per mile stats, as acidfast7 does in his excellent thread:

3700 miles
$270 total
238 commutes on this bike
$.073 /mile
$1.13 /commuting day

Parts replaced or broken: none
Repairs cost: none
Upgrades: none (but did change the saddle)

A little approximate since I use 2 bikes for commuting, but based on a conservative estimate of 60% of my commutes on this one. 6166 total commute miles, 397 commute days, since this thread started.

acidfast7 08-20-17 09:20 AM

Nice stats, man, those are some nice stats.

Thanks. I'm pretty pleased with that. But, I think the stats are going to blow up when I give into the temptation for replacing with a decent wheelset and a lighter, better crank set. I'm kind of surprised that I've kept it stock for this long.
