Still warm and humid this morning, so the cold front is still pending. I stopped for a couple of photos this morning along the MUP.

TGIF! Last commute of the month...

Watched the weather forecast last night. Supposed to wake up to 42 and heavy fog. Was 53 and cloudy this morning. Go figure. Made for a nice ride in despite a slight headwind. Hoping it holds for a tailwind this afternoon. Surprisingly light traffic again. I'll take it.

Warm and muggy here, like another summer day. September has been just an extension of summer here this year, with above average temperatures and humidity almost every day. We've also had a lot of rain, with tropical systems dominating our weather for the past two weeks and another one (Matt) apparently on the way.

wphamilton 09-30-16 07:57 AM

51° and dark enough for lights, that kind of snuck up on me! That's still shorts weather IMO but I took the street route with hills to help stay warm. Plus I really didn't want to deal with the Greenway this morning.

PatrickGSR94 09-30-16 08:06 AM

I was kitted up and ready to go out on the driveway yesterday morning... then bailed. Stomach started feeling gross suddenly, and I would have had some decent headwinds to deal with in the afternoon.

So I rode today instead. Slightly warmer this morning, felt good, and headwinds this afternoon will be less. Plus I can leave the office earlier on Fridays. :)

This morning we had some awesome sky artwork. Other than that it was uneventful.

It was supposed to rain pretty much all day today, so I was relieved it hadn't started yet when I rode to the station... nor when I got off my train in the city. I'll probably be getting pretty wet this afternoon, though!

HardyWeinberg 09-30-16 09:51 AM

47F grey all the way

Also, left my fingerless gloves at work last night, turns out they do keep my hands warm on mornings like this.

Had to go back in and get a light jacket this morning. Very nice ride.

making 10-02-16 05:59 AM

This Sunday morning temp wise was about the same, wore light jacket, very nice out. Problem was they parked a train downtown so I had to reroute around the Riverwalk no bicycle zone. I think the sign addressed more kids doing tricks on bikes running over people during the day and not old guys trying to get to work at 0700 on Sunday morning. Anyway I rode under the train and I thought it cost me about 5 minutes and I had left plenty of time to get to work at 0730. Coming up on the hill I look at the time on my odometer and it said 0738. I thought I went through a time warp or something, so I rode as hard as I could. I get to work and up to my office and it is 0729. It is correct time right now, the only thing I can think of is it said 0718. It has been a long time since I have been late for work on my bicycle and barely kept the streak alive this morning.

essiemyra 10-03-16 04:47 AM

The ride was a very nice uneventful commute with the temp at 51f degrees and dark starry skies in some places and low fog in others. I am not a fan of the fog.

Johnny Mullet 10-03-16 05:44 AM

Rained all week last week and did not get to ride :(

This week will be better and I can't wait to ride again!

Foggy ride this morning. One of those rare days when even the glasses would not stay clear. I eventually shed them and rode bare-eyed.

Gorgeous photo PatrickGSR94. I saw a beautiful sunrise on Friday morning too but I was in the car and couldn't stop to take a photo. I'll have to carry my camera when I bike in so that I can catch these sunrises myself.

Cool and overcast but dry. I saw a couple more bike commuters this morning that I don't recall normally seeing, maybe there are more out there now.

Easy morning and not a bad temp.. the Trek is back! Couldn't get the freehub so finally got ticked off enough wacked it a mallet a few dozen times. The wheel didn't like that... Just went to the local LBS and they had a used wheel for $10. Spent less on it than all the junk to fix the other! And the freehub I was able to remove on it. Think I might of overlubed the freehub though.

tarwheel 10-03-16 07:20 AM

Warm and humid, but better than last week. The weather this week might actually be "seasonal" here for a change, rather than running 10-15 degrees warmer than usual. However, Hurricane Matthew is looming on the horizon and East Coasters will be watching its progress very nervously.

mgw4jc 10-03-16 07:24 AM

A white pickup truck was passing me, but I sensed him slowing down and noticed his right blinker. "Ack! He's turning right in front of me!" So I hit the brakes and look for the end of his truck so I can miss it. "Ack! He's pulling a trailer! Are you kidding me!"

I slowed down enough to avoid a mishap. I waved my hand in a "WTF" manner. No idea if he saw my anger as he had something in the back of his truck blocking his rearview anyway.

A pleasant ride otherwise. Nice cool, low 60s with much less humidity than last week. A short week for me as the family is meeting more family in Hilton Head. We may also meet up with Hurricane Matthew, which also happens to be my name.

^ I had a similar experience with a bus in For Lee a year ago or so. In that case I got squeezed into a plastic road marker (the bigger ones waist high). I just learned to slow down and get right behind them. Especially the articulated buses. It was a pleasant 62F this morning. Looks to be a pretty nice day in the low 70's or so later on.

groovestew 10-03-16 08:46 AM

Just above freezing, but I'm sure the valley was a couple degrees colder. I don't know where my morning legs are; just don't seem to have any oomph to get up the hills.

essiemyra 10-04-16 04:42 AM

The commute this morning had some fine mist but there were places that were not getting any of the fine mist or water, kind of similar to the fog yesterday. I saw a small fox cross the road in front of me and he safely made it to the other side. The temp was warm this am at 57f degrees.

dcb23 10-04-16 05:01 AM

61F / 16C clear skies, dark, wore socks with my Keens for the first time since spring. I feel the chill is coming but we should have nice riding here for a good 2 months before it really gets cold.

esmith2039 10-04-16 05:17 AM

Strong headwind and warm again. Supposed to rain tomorrow.

Johnny Mullet 10-04-16 05:31 AM

Cold, damp, and darker. No rain this morning though!

mgw4jc 10-04-16 06:22 AM

I just posted this on another thread about drafting, but wanted to share here too.

I can't say I've drafted for any length of time before, but I just happened on an opportunity today. A lawn maintenance type truck was in front of me to turn right and I followed him. I knew the road to be mostly flat and even somewhat downhill, so I got a few feet behind and stayed with him for almost a full mile. Once we were up to speed, I only had to pedal every few seconds. It's a 30mph road and I clocked 29.2 for that mile. What a rush!

baron von trail 10-04-16 06:57 AM

Well, I didn't have a truck to draft behind. So I pedaled for a little more than an hour. Now I am eating a giant bagel with cream cheese. Maybe I will even get myself seconds.

Wolfhaven 10-04-16 06:58 AM

Woke up to 50 degrees. I'll take it. At 50 I can still wear shorts. I do add a second layer on top and a lightweight summer biking cap under the helmet. Stars were amazing when I stepped outside. Made a stop at the grocery store for some fruit and some stuff for dinner tonight. Figure it's easier to grab it in the morning when the store is pretty much empty versus after work when it's a zoo. Going home today I should be hitting 10-20 mph head and quartering winds.

Last Friday my ride home was just one of those rides. Started using a blinking white light in front for my rides home through the side streets but it didn't help. Had a lady pull out and she just kept sliding over into me. She before she hit me she looked over and finally seen me. Bright clothes and flashing light is no help if they aren't looking. Got by the grocery store and an old lady waiting to get out of the lot wagged her finger at me. No idea why, the lane she was trying to get into was blocking her, not me. I wagged my finger back, smiled and then laughed. Down a back road as I approached a double set of train tracks the lights go off so I slow down and figure I would pull in behind this mini suv that was pulling up behind me. I have a left turn right after the tracks so I try to get in the line of cars when there's a train. She slows and matches my speed so I can't get behind her. Looking over she's texting on her phone. Just before the track clears I move up and then sprinted ahead. Just as she was pulling over to pass me on the left I threw up my arm to signal my turn and she had to hit the brakes and pull back behind me. Sure she wasn't happy but I wasn't happy with her texting and driving so I guess we were even.
