Just on the last few hours of 5 12hr shifts.. 40km return each day..which was a nice break from work but man..wind and rain for each and every trip..Real spring can't come soon enough for me.. I could have really used my pedelectric but i put that in the LBS for bb/spring tune up last week..although my back up bike is IGH (nexus 8) so i'd prefer it got the road grime..

Clear and cool ride this morning - low 50s. Gonna be a nice day, wish I could ride more and work less.

Another picture perfect day in NC, sunny with mild temperatures. I completed my first 5-day bike commute of the year, despite thinking on Monday that I might only be able to ride two days. I had to go out of town on business Tuesday and Wednesday, but biked to work with my travel gear in panniers, so I was able to ride to work on Tuesday morning and ride home on Wednesday afternoon. I also had planned to take Friday off for a weekend trip, but that got canceled, so I rode today after all. It's supposed to be a cold and rainy weekend here, so it's nice to be able to ride when the weather is favorable.

I would love to chase a fox that way, rhm.
I rode to work and back yesterday. The weather was glorious, and so were the views of the river. I'm lucky I have such a scenic commute. I think I figured out my foot pain problem. It seems I have a bunion, so I probably don't have a pinched nerve. I'll see a podiatrist. |
Broke out the road bike today (vs the cross frame). Like flying!
edit: also, 28mm tires at 80-90 psi not nearly as harsh as I feared on this one stretch of chipchipchipseal compared to the winter bike 35mm tires at 70psi |

Interesting commute today. This morning was uneventful, but dark. Rolled out on time for once, at 6 AM on the dot, but sunrise isn't until 7:05. Upper 40's.
This afternoon started out sunny and 70's when I left the office: http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=510358 Then some ominous clouds started rolling in. Quick check of the radar showed some approaching storms (had no idea when I left work) but I thought I could beat them. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=510356 Nope, the wind that was out of the southeast suddenly shifted to north/northwest, very strong, and I got caught in some pea-size hail (the circled white streak in the video capture). Kinda stung a little. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=510355 By the time I was nearly at home it had stopped raining, sun started coming out again and there was a rainbow. But the temperature had plummeted into the upper 50's. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=510357 I knew there was rain forecast for tonight, but this one caught me totally by surprise. I didn't have any fenders on the bike or anything. Oh well, bike needed to be washed anyway. |
I didn't commute. But I did do a slow 14 km, at about 7 km/h. We took about 4 hours with a break for ice cream and fish and chips.
My son was the limiting factor for speed, not me! But he pedaled the whole way. It was a family ride with my wife, son, and daughter. None of have been riding the last few months, for me it has been fourteen months. As for my daughter it was her first two wheeled foray, she rode in the trailer I acquired shortly before the accident. After she nursed and had a nap, she loved it! Anyway I felt good overall and all thing considered and I was able to go longer than I expected. I even thought I could have held a higher pace and I could start commuting. |
Great news joeyduck! I'm sure it feels good / strange to be back out there.
A cooler morning of 36F here today. Had to pull out some of the warmer gear that I thought I was done with for a while. It seemed lighter out when I left compared to last week. |

Nice, sunny, cool (-6C/21F, but -11C/12F windchill) ride in. Saw 2 other bike commuters this morning and there was a bike in the bike cage before mine.
My wife wants to bike this summer as our sons will be away (one working, the other at school) and as I will be cycling most days this summer, I won't be able to drive her to work which means that she'll have to pay $6/day (I know many other places charge more, a lot more but my workplace has free parking so from $0 to $6 is a big change) and she doesn't want to do that every day. (When are sons are at home, they can drive her and pick her up.) Her workplace has some bike boxes (what I call them) for parking, somewhat like the photo below, so, as long as she gets there early enough, she'll have a place for her bike. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=510717 |

been a while but i have still been riding...
It has been a while since I have posted on here. Last week, I had 85 miles in three days and it was warm, gloriously, warm and sunny. Saturday, I participated in a charity ride on my commuter bike because I have sold my road bike. I am pretty pleased with my ride. Averaged 16.4mph on a cyclocross set up for commuting for 63.3 mile (Rack and fenders). The fenders came in handy since it was cold [mid 40's] and rained off and on for most of the early 40 miles of the ride. I felt good and enjoyed it even though I rode in the rain & it was cold & windy &I got lost (thankful for Garmin 800 and the ability to route me places). It eventually provided a good route and that was pretty bike friendly back to the bike shop. I was out so long that they called me and asked if I was still out there. I felt bad for that.
This morning it was in the 30's and I was riding in the dark at 0630.. |
Finally got another ride in today. Just finished overhauling my 3 speed, so I took her for a 1 way trip. The Better Half will be giving me a ride home (that bike stays at work). It was cool, verging on cold and I made it to work just a minute or so after our weekly staff meeting started (would have been just on time if our boss didn't call it early!) No big deal there. I also had a few extra cherry tomato plants to bring in with me for one of my coworkers. Using a backpack is always great, especially when you don't have to wear it!

Until I solve my foot pain problem, I can't ride much for now. :(

It was a nice uneventful commute this morning with the temp at 28f degrees. Oh and an almost full moon. I only get to see that the first quarter mile, then I head east and it is to my back. Oh well. Still and all it is nice to be out and riding this morning. |

Beautiful moon set coming in this morning. |
Yeah, that was a beautiful moon this morning, right next to a bright planet. Cold, though! Last week I was hearing peepers in the swamp; today it was all quiet, except that maybe I heard a fox let out a single yelp.
|
Cold again today at about 33F. Almost wore all my winter gear, but instead I let my chin and toes get a little cold.
Sunny and a high of 68 will make for a nice ride home. |
Apparently no one's informed mother nature that it's spring, 29F yesterday, 39F today... at least trending in the right direction
|
A colder morning today, -10C/14F, but I was comfortably cool. Front tire flatted last night, possibly right as I turned into the driveway as I detected nothing beforehand and it wasn't until I had gone back out after dinner to move the bike from the side to the back of the house that I saw the flat. Fixed it this morning by swapping out the studded tires for knobby tires on my MTB which was ok because although there are still a few icy spots, only about 2 were not visibly dirty with sidewalk sand and they were easily avoided. A storm is forecasted for Thursday night with 15-30cm (6-12") of snow but as I don't work from Good Friday to Easter Monday inclusive, it could be gone by the time I need to ride in on Tuesday, or the worst of the storm might miss us altogether.

we are trending the other way 33F yesterday and 29F today. frost warning this morning. wore my winter stuff. I am not sure what I will be wearing in the 66F tonight, although 10-20 mph wind will make it colder than that.

Low 40's this morning, 60's this afternoon with a HUGE tail wind. Should be fun!
Mr. State Trooper was back again this morning. I had a run-in with him on the rural roads near my office back in December. Nothing from the PA this time. I made him wait as we approached a 90-deg. sharp left curve, with other traffic oncoming. After the curve and traffic I waved him by, and he threw a little tantrum by flooring it around me (still a full lane change, though). This was a Chevy Tahoe SUV highway patrol vehicle, BTW. Guess he was none too pleased about having to slow down for TEN WHOLE SECONDS. |

The commute itself was fine. But pulling stuff out of the pack this morning I felt wetness. I thought wth? There ain't no liquid in here. At the bottom of my pack was a banana I put in the pack yesterday!
Fortunately we have big sinks. Completely submerged the pack, washed, rinsed and dried. Time for spring cleaning. |
