Bike shops in Germany...??

Hello everyone. First of all i'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post my question.
Second, i'm newly arrived to Dortmund, Germany and i'm gonna libe here for now, and i want to buy a road bike for two reasons. 1. I love them and i want to finally own one. 2. I wanna use it to go work, college, the supermarket, and to take long rides around town in the weekend. No serious racing or competing.
So can anyone tell me about a good bike shop near my area that could sell my a good road bike with a good price and give me a proper bike fitting?
Also, what brand and model of road bike can you guys recommend?
Thank you all so much.

Howdy. Now before you start considering something nice and stealable. Where do you lock up the bike? Outside or somewhere inside the house/workplace/university/coffee shop? Bike theft in Germany just like in any other country is a problem you have to deal with. So if you want a go around the city bike, I'd recommend a used bike you can afford to have stolen.
I for example park my commuter inside my office building and also have a garage at home to lock up all my bikes and hide them away.
I have one used cheap bike for going into the city and the rest are nice and expensive steeds, which I do not leave in public spaces.

This should tell you all the shops around Darmstadt. Since I don't live there I can't tell you which ones are good or not. But used bikes you should be able to find from looking into the newspapers.

You might consider getting first a toss-away bike or renting to give yourself time for picking the ultimate one. Also contact ADFC Dortmund. I am sure they can give you good suggestions.

Google for words like Radladen, Fahrradladen, ... The link to the ADFC should help a lot as well. Also you may want to talk to locals about regional "garage sales" web sites.
And yes use the yellow pages with a help of a German friend or co-worker.
Also get a good sturdy lock. Bicycle parking spots at universities, colleges, railway stations are famous for bikes getting stolen. Plus somehow mark your bike so you will be able to find it again. I am not kidding. In bike friendly cities like Heidelberg the parking spot for bicycles at the railway station looks like that:

Easy for bikes to get lost or stolen.

I lived in Reilingen and bike commuted 17km to and from Heidelberg for 5 years 1997-2002. Bike theft wasn't that big a deal, at least not for regular city bikes which accounted for about 95% of the bikes in daily use back then. I often left my bike at the Heidelberg Hbf while taking the train elsewhere. In the picture below my bike is the purple Vaterland in the foreground. I still am using that bike daily.

Unless your heart is set on owning a road bike, you might want to rethink what type of bike would serve your stated needs best. Take a look around you and see what kind of bike the people around you ride around town, to the supermarket, and to college. I bought the Vaterland from the Opel dealer in Reilingen who also ran a bike shop as a sideline, I never had any need for bicycle repair from a dealer but did buy a few parts from Heidel bike shop in HBG. I needed one coil spring for a Brooks B66 saddle, they didn't have it, but got it for me in one day. I am sure Dortmund has bike shops that will serve you equally well.

I-like-to-bike is right, reconsider the road bike for now. German law require the typical city bike to come equipped with generator powered front and rear lights, fenders, a bell, and maybe even a rack. Mtb and racing bikes are considered sport equipment and exempt from those requirements. For all they include, city bikes can be quite a bargain in Germany, and you will be glad to have fenders, rack, lights, and bell in your everyday use. Many bikes also have frame locks that are very convenient.

I bought my favorite bike used at a German Flöhmarkt (flea market) for about 30 euros. There will also be used bike shops like

FAST WIE NEU.Bikes : Fahrradrecycling : Fahrradservice am HBF Dortmund

so it maybe practical to get a road bike and city bike both.
