The zipper on my jacket bouncing in perfect sync with my pedaling cadence.

Rear brake pad rubbing the rim 1+ week ago. Somehow the noise was cyclic, only a certain part of the rim was in contact with brakepad (wonder why).

1: Road ID bouncing on heart rate strap. Click Click Click. Took way too long to figure out
2: Front derailleur cable end lightly touching tire, pointing up, making the weirdest sound. 3: Ungreased headset spacers creaking almost made me loose my mind Ever notice that any sound seems like it's coming from the bottom bracket, no matter where it really comes from? |

I've actually got something like this going on in the cupholder of my truck. Metal pint-sized thermos cups (like Contigo) buzz terribly. Appears incurable!

Front DR cable sticking out to click every pedal stroke. That one feels really dumb when you notice it.
|
Is that one more or less dumb than shoelace aglet clicking on the crank every pedal stroke?

OP mentioned birds. We have some mockingbirds around the Greenway and I swear they mimic brake squeaks and other bike noises. It doesn't feel dumb but really annoying when you're alone on a quiet ride and they trick you with that. |
Loose/damaged bottom bracket cup. Ouch.
|
The noises turned out to be...?
Computer magnet NOT hitting the sensor still makes a very faint clicking sound.
Took me a while to work out as I only hear it in very quiet places. Oh and that darn shoestring thing mentioned above :/ Fun thread! :) |
I had a reflective ankleband on a little loose, and it sounded like squeaky bedspring

A new one today... alternating squeaking and farting sounds from both pedals. I thought maybe the rubber sidewalls of my hiking shoes were rubbing against the crank arms, so I moved my feet out a bit. Nope, still squeaking/farting.
So I checked the soft nylon platform pedals. Nope, both seemed okay. Turns out both shoe soles began separating identically, both with identical holes in the separated soles, both forming identical bubbles that compressed with a squeaky fart sound when I mashed down, then drew in air for another go on the upstroke. :innocent: http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=519669 |
...coming from inside the house!

Been chasing down a bottom bracket creak for 5 months. Cleaned the BB, replaced the bearings (def needed the bearings), new pedals but still had a creak that seemed to be temperature dependent. Then I decided it had to be the pedals and started swapping them around, turned out the old set of pedals had a creak in the drive side pedal and the new set had a creak in the non drive side. So 1 dual sided pedal and 1 SPD pedal might look a little weird, but it finally made for a quite ride.
|
Yesterdays creaking sound turned out to be the result of my bike missing 3 of the 5 chainring bolts.
|
For months my bike was making noise over rough roads. I assumed it was my thermos in my bottle cage or the chain hitting the chain stay over bumps. I took off the chain and thermos, but the noise was still there. I start spinning the rear wheel and noticed an odd noise. Turned out an axle nut was lose, but my cassette lockring was loose too! I would have never thought to check that because it has never happened before.
|
The fluttering noise that turned out to be the tag for the tea bag in the travel mug in the water bottle cage fluttering in the headwind.
|
I was riding one time and I heard a faint rhythmic ticking. I grew louder and louder as I rode. I was about to stop and check the bike out when I realized it was a crew re-roofing a house.

many times a rattling per pedal stroke turned out to be ice in my water bottle. It somehow always surprises me

I once drove myself crazy, and the local bike shop, looking for a click when I pedaled. Then one night I treated my Brooks saddle, the click disappeared. It was my saddle. |
Had the end of a zip tie dragging on the wheel on Tuesday, an irritating high pitched screeching sound. So of course I stopped and clipped that off. Then a more subdued rasp which I knew was duck-tape flopped against it, which I let go until that evening. I took care of that and new brake pads, which I didn't grind down quite enough and I've had the scritch-scritch of brakes rubbing on a slightly out of true rim. I should just fix both issues, but I'm hoping that the pads will wear down in a day or two.

I had a weird rhythmic squeaking sound this summer that turned out to be a slow leak that only leaked at certain points. I only figured it out after adjusting the brakes and spoke tension before getting the first of a series of flats. Once the tire was changed the noises stopped.
